as a survivor of rape,, I wouldn't support his death either

but I understand the appeal,,

its just against my personal values

He might be set free and do it over and over again , do you believe such people yet deserve to live ?

I agree that the death penalty should not be given unless there is infallible evidence of guilt.

For example, Timothy McVeigh admitted to causing the Oklahoma City Bombing but insisted that he had just cause to do it.

In McVeigh's case, the death penalty was just.

Some victims of rape prefer to die than to live with that memory , and some of them even commit suicide , why would we give some subhumans the chance to ruin others' lives over and over ?

peoples lives are 'ruined' in many ways,,but if they still have breath,, they are amongst the living,,,,

which is a blessing, even in struggle, that does not cause for taking the life of another

,,again,, my values

I totally understand people's moral stance againt capital punishment because human life is indeed precious, and I am a big believer in second chances.

But unfortunately there are some people in the world who are morally bankrupt, and are inclined to perpetuate heinous crimes even within the confines of prison.

I think it is unfair for those of us who are law abiding citizens to be dispensing our hard-earned money toward the feeding and clothing of unrepentant evil-doers , who are almost guaranteed to repeat their abominable crimes.

Maybe the unhappy compromise would be to confine capital punishment to people who have committed pre-meditated violent crimes more than once.

that could be a compromise,, I just still dont trust mans judgment on this, and who those people would be determined to be

Mixed feelings about it.
We don't have capital punishment over here anymore. Was abolished in 1870.
In general I think it's a good thing, but sometimes I feel ppl deserve the death penalty.
One thing I don't get, why does it have to take so long? 7-13 yrs on death row? WTF for? After the verdict, it should be executed within a week. Two max. If they simply let ppl live, what's the point of death penalty?

Anyways, in two minds about it. Like Sitka said, some ppl are pure evil.

As for second chances, our society sometimes hands out 2nd, 3rd, 100th chances way to easily. That's not always a bad things, but sometimes it is. Sometimes a line needs to be drawn in the sand. But not too often either lest ppl will end up living in fear (again, like we used to.)

It's always about the golden mean, innit.

Well In Texas, we have a world wide prejudice that were still, hostile wild western types. Truth is I wis that we weren't the leading capital punishment place on the planet.

I had a friend that was a detective. He passed away. When I was doing investigations, he would let me check out murder scenes and autopsys. Not cause that was my thing, just because at that time I thought I would be on that career path. Not pretty. Some sociopaths don't just kill someone, they obliterate someone. I've seen rapists, murderers. You wonder why they are left on death row? Well they get an additional 7-10 years to prove that they are falsely condemned. So when they get the needle, it's deservedly so. Europe said nope were not going to sell you the chemicals to do lethal injection. Ok, I agree. Bullets are cheaper and in my opinion more humane. Some of you from other countries might not like this. But when you see what these horrible excuses for a human beings can do to another,,,you would agree.

I totally agree , and I've witnessed what might some people do when they have the chance, they justify what they do to themselves and find others who justify that as well , in such cases sending them to prison will cause nothing but allowing them to transfer their evil ideology to others , a great help to support their efforts .... what's left to keep the world clean ? Throwing them with flowers ?!
I don't think so .

I am certainly glad that God previously approved of capital punishment for 1st-Degree murderers (Exodus 21:14).
God would not approve of sin.

I believe no one has the right to end up someone’s life. Christ Jesus fulfilled and ended the Old Covenant (the Law of Moses) on the cross. He personally gave us new commandments:

“And I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Matthew 5:44
‘and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength’. Mark 12:30
“The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these.” Mark 12:31
"Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34

Amen

What if the person is wrongly accused?

thats what the trials are for...

Even after trials some have been innocent and have been sent to jail

nothing's perfect... people error about about everything...

I understand that
Is the death penalty a good choice?

How many could possibly be innocent & in jail... In my country? laugh
We don't have enough prisons or enough States that have capital punishment. And few crimes is it even suggested.
Plus they sit on death row for 7 yrs, after conviction (& have a better life than everyone else in prison).
And the taxpayers pay for it.

I agree with what you are saying but there has been innocent people die for crimes they didn't do.

Should we sacrifice the innocent?
We need to find another solution to the problem.

How 'bout a compromise for all the anti death penalty folks? We do away with the death penalty....but DONT tell the condemned.
Would be a hoot....a group of burly officers walk to the condemned's cell....
"it's time"....
.....and he is dragged off to the gallows. The hood is placed over his head, the noose cinched around his neck....the execution decree is read and the trap door is opened!

....except, the condemned doesn't realize that the other end of the rope isn't tied off....and he lands with a thud on his now excrement filled pants.
He is led back to his cell and left with these words...
" Maybe next time you die, maybe not"

Let him live in fear of those footsteps approaching his cell for the rest of his miserable life...

Pfizer recently announced they were discontinuing supplying certain chemicals for lethal injections. While I don't always agree that execution is necessarily the right choice, in some cases I think it's the only choice.

In this day and age where social media is essentially the master of the free world, there are too many people out there, cold-blooded killers, who still have a voice. As long as they are alive, they try to stay in the spotlight, for one reason or another. I could understand in some cases where execution would not only rid us of the individual - but clear him (or her) from our memories, the news, etc. Once a murderer is dead, more often than not, people stop talking about the crime altogether.

Execution isn't just good as an effective form of punishment - it also effectively silences the talk about the killers.

That's the part of capital punishment that is an absolute benefit to us all.

And I, like you, have no issue with the death penalty for the most evil committers...hell, life in prison is a death sentence anyway...just speed it up a bit.
