If you drink, stop, at least for a few months. Also decide what triggers a craving and eliminate, or replace it.

try something to replace the oral fixation that comes with smoking...that is the most addicting part about it. Withdrawl will come, but they may not even be something that makes you think about smoking. If you eat pistachio's or suckers, it takes away the physical aspect of smoking and the nervous withdrawls are usual subsided with the physical substitute.

I quit cold turkey and that worked best for me. I have been smoke free for a year now.

I saw on travel channel one time that men in greece help themselves quit by having something in their hand to play with all the time. keep something in your pocket to fidget with, and try to keep yourself busy. i never smoked because i needed it, only because i was bored. i never decided to stop but i have... just because i always said i started cause i felt like it and i will quit cause i feel like it. try not to force yourself to do it, cutting back worked for me, not cold turkey.

chantix works for sure. its used very commonly in the hospitals. my dad smoked for over 25 years tried everything but it works. it works by removing that "high" you get after taking a puff of a cig after not having one. over the next few weeks of it not doing anyhing for you, you'll kick the habit. and chantix is herbal which means its not really addictive.

Drink a lot of water to help flush the nicotine out of your system. The cravings will come and they will pass--that is, they will go away if you don't get your nicotine fix.
I've been off nicotine for seven years after a long struggle. Doing what you're doing now (asking for help) helped me turn the corner. The replacement theory has it's place. I replaced smoking with breathing, as in meditation. Good luck! |

after 2 packs a day for 60 years, quit cold turkey. bought one last pack opened it placed it here beside my computer know I have them if the temptation gets to bad. have reached for them many times then push them back and say no I can go without it that was 6 months ago, am still smoke free. I can tell you it is not easy but if you really want to quit you can do it.

Thanks for all the advice guys. But as far as oral fixation goes I cannot find a girl that will satisfy my oral fixation I think that is worse than smoking. But I will try some of the things that are posted here.
Thanks again Doug |

there are drugs on the market such as wellbutrin or something like that.. you can go to your doctor and have insurance pay for it by telling the dr that there is alot of stress in your life and have been smoking like a fiend.. but be sure to make him think it is more for the stress.. most insurance companies wont cover the perscriptions if it is just to quit smoking..
wellbutrin is used as an anti-depressant for most cases and the major side effect is that it makes you want to stop smoking! takes about 2 weeks to kick in, then cigarettes will taste like crap and you wont get the cravings.. at the 2 week mark be sure to be out of cigarettes and BE READY to quit.. noone can quit if they arent ready and really want to.. |
