It is not only America, that's for sure.
But what does anyone expect?
Children are not taught discipline anymore.
The parents let them run wild, and the teachers are gagged.
When I went to school we learned discipline there.
If we didn't pay attention we got bad marks.
We learned spelling and to do simple maths in our head.
Now the kids learn how to use spell check and calculators for the most simple of sums.
But parents sometimes have no choice, they have to work for a living, there is no time for the children anymore.
We were not beat in school, that was forbidden by then, but we could still get a load of extra work, or an extra hour in school.
And the parents were informed about it.
And they agreed. They knew that we were no angels.
Parents today think the sun shines out of their childrens a***s,
no matter how bad they are. And if the teachers open their mouth about it they get rebuked.

and then when the kids get into trouble parents say:
"oh no my boy is a good boy."

you'll have to excuse my absence wouldee I was at work..

Dont feel I need to defend myself because of an article written
by someone else..I do agree with him...maybe I would have written
it differently...I think the decline of the school system is related
to interference from the federal government...Does anyone remember
neighborhood schools from the past ...or even one room schools..like
I went to...I believe the trouble magnified when we constructed warehouse
schools...with over crowded classrooms..and of course there is the meddling
of the federal government in the form of testing, curriculum molding and
a bloated management structure...

get rid of the federal government...go back to state managment...and local
if possible...

get rid of the federal government...

yes this is what i have been saying 4 years, in fact remove government, remove all governments! there would b a few years of chaos and then people would settle down into the responsability of being their own masters. not needing to serve anyone which is all the educational system does 4 anyone as bob dylan said "you dont need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows" (granted he also said "you gotta serve somebody" but thats just cause he was in a jesus lovin mood at the time)

Maybe if the teachers got paid more for doing their job more people would go into that profession. Then maybe students would get the proper teaching and understanding of something. But I have to agree alot of parents don't disciplined like they should. But nowadays if you discipline kids in a certain way you will most likely end up in jail.

The level of education of a European high school is equivalent to a 4 year college in the USofA.

Especially in math and humanities. Which come to think of it means every subject

I disagree, I dont think american kids are dumb at all. Many kids are learning more difficult things in their grades then their parents did. I am in college and I grade tests for a middle school match competition and I saw a question asking for a certain formula. The only place I remember seeing that formula was in my Advanced Physics class in High school.

I doubt that Temorek. I will graduate in the spring and I doubt Europeans out of high school will have my education much less the math( since I will have a minor in math).

I have a great idea ....

Let's take 40 children and place then in a classroom with one teacher. Some of the children don't have enough to eat or eat nothing but junk with no nurtitional value...some of them are abused... Some of them have uninvolved parents who care more about where their next beer or hit is coming from than the state of their children...Some of them have single parents working two jobs and some of them have a healthy happy nuclear family ....

the school gets extra money for kids taking medication to treat ADD and ADHD ... $500 per child per quarter ... so let's just overprescribe medication to children who don't really need it because after all schools are underfunded and they have to get extra money from somewhere right?.

Let's feed them french fries and some nugget thing that doesn't really resemble chicken ... and call that a nutritional lunch. No sense wasting the extra money on fruit and vegetables.

Let's shirk responsibility and blame the teacher when little Johnny has behavioural issues and when Sarah tries to kill herself. It is the teacher ... it is the school ... it is the parent ... it is the country....

No wait ... it is the children ... they are dumb as dirt...

grumble

****sorry for my rant ... am taking myself to timeout**** flowerforyou

Thankyou Artgurl for bringing some sense to a heap of posturing.

Let's also add statistically one in every four children from ages 0-17 have been sexually abused,or a victim/witness of/to domestic violence.

Yep, teachers are no damn good, no wait!! kids are no damn good, no wait!! parents are no damn good, no wait!! governments are no damn good, no wait!! it HAS to be someone else's fault.

And still the world gets crazier..grumble grumble grumble

Isn't it said every generation that "the kids now-a-days are stupid!". I even noticed that in middle school, with news broadcasts saying "the graduates from 2000 and afterward will be stupid!" Yeah, thanks for encouragement arses.

Maybe theres a problem of people thinking theres a problem in schools. Instead of focusing on actual teaching and actual thought, its more based on scoring high in Federal exams so the school can get grants so it can buy better text books.

what i see with kids today... no disapline, no respect, always making excuses instead of accepting responsibility, and they learn everything in school except how to think for thmselves.

please, the next time anyone posts long articles, split them into paragpraphs. its WAY easier to read.

fact is that its not just american youth thats being dumbed down, its a worl wide thing.

here in NZ we have this RETARDED NCEA grading system (was used, failed and booted in the UK I believe) which is teaching kids to do the BARE minimum in everything.

Im not really surprised why its coming down to this.
