I'm really paranoid right now, a teacher was murdered a few miles away from me either yesterday or the day b4 and its my first time living alone......REALLY REALLY REALLY paranoid. my house is on lockdown, but im still nervous. any suggestions?

That is the reason I keep a dog. Not necessarily for the protection as much as the noise maker. I do keep something close for protection a bat was suggested, I have a lead pipe. If I am alone I do not keep alot of lights on as that makes you more visible to someone outside. Make double sure all avenues of entry are secure and keep the outside as lit as possible. That is my best advice. I have lived alone off and on for the last three years. My kids come home off and on. Do not get yourself overworked though because you will start hearing too many things that are nothing.

nothing you can do, but be aware of your surroundings and take the extra measures such as have your keys ready when going to your car, etc.
if you feel that unsafe--i would relocate.

I plug my phone in next to my bed....that always makes me feel better.....plus I have a little pistol that I keep in my night stand....that makes me feel a lot better!

you don't need a gun for self-defense anyway. they hardly ever do any good in such a situation.

really, get a real dog, like a German Shorthaired Pointer (I miss mine ). And a vampire. Vampires make guns obselete anyway.

no, but she was killed 2 miles away from my house......
