Gospel
Lk 18:1-8

Jesus told his disciples a parable
about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.
He said, "There was a judge in a certain town
who neither feared God nor respected any human being.
And a widow in that town used to come to him and say,
'Render a just decision for me against my adversary.'
For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,
'While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,
because this widow keeps bothering me
I shall deliver a just decision for her
lest she finally come and strike me.'"
The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones
who call out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to answer them?
I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.
But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

Yesterday, the father of my parish said something that really impacted me:

We pray not to ask for what we want, God already knows it, we pray for God to let us see what His will is.

What do you guys think?

Just in case somebody jumps, and cries.
When the gospel says "chosen ones," it means to all the humanity.
What happens is that sometimes we don't want to be God's chosen ones.

The woman beseeched the judge with, if my memory serves me correctly, with IMPORTUNITY!!!! That means you have to mean it.... and specifically regarding your salvation. If you possess the downpayment of your redemption by way of the Holy Spirit indwelling your heart...your prayers have a different tenor. If one seeks God for favor and sees Him as Santa Claus, one shouldn't expect anything except gentle nudges to come closer. Answers and signs and wonders are just that. The meat of God's goodness is in the personal relationship with Him...much like the search we are all on at this site for a loving partner { please forgive that assumption) happy

In my opinion, we pray to communicate with God. Yes, God will show us his will, he will provid our strength, wisdom and knowledge, patience, and all of our other needs. Prayer is also a sign of faith at times. You those times when if feels that God is not lsitening, and your prayers are not being answered, yet you pray anyway? God does hear our prayers, and answers them.

Prayer works!

When I am filled with worries, I pray and ask to be shown what to do. It always works for me.

Love is patient;
love is kind;
love is not envious
or boastful or arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice in wrongdoing,
but rejoices in the truth.
It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.
Corinthians 13:4-7

Prayer is the most precious gift you can give to the Lord God Almighty. If you have truly given your life to him....Then your prayer is your communication with him. It doesn't always mean the prayers are going to be answered, because they are not answered on our terms but HIS.......It's my honor to be a mighty prayer warrior for my Lord & Savior......And He has blessed me beyond all measurable riches because......

Great post Miguel,

enjoyed the comments from everyone.

Prayer can be a wonderful time with God, to give him our adoration, praise, thanksgiving, offer our supplications and just hand it to Him knowing that He will give us only the best, and will fulfill all of our needs.

As we draw nearer to Him, He will draw nearer to us.

Prayer is very important to me. I pray in earnest all the time. I believe in prayer. I have seen it work. It worked on me. I have felt its effects, its warmth, its power. I have witnessed its power in others.
Through prayer I have found strength many times. Serenity and peace. Healing and newness.
When praying for myself, I always remember to ask " His will not mine" and to give me the wisdom to see, hear, realize and know it is His. For when I take control and forget who is in charge, it all goes haywire.
Prayer feels good, it gives me hope and fills my heart with kindness and joy.
Yup, I believe in prayer.

Jesus built his ministry around prayer, In Luke 11 when one of Jesus’ disciples comes to him saying, "Lord teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples…" Jesus responds by giving them an example which we have come to know as the Lords Prayer.

In John 17 we see Jesus praying to God, his earnest prayer that we might know Him.

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20 "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:

23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

24 "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

25 "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.

26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."
