can anyone explain what this entails? Why do some send friend requests? Does this give them any privileges to your account?

Welcome to Mingle Gypsy.
Sorry I misinterpreted your question. The friend request is a message from another person on Mingle who wishes to communicate with you.You have the option of ignoring the request.Accepting the request or blocking the person who sent the request.Be selective about accepting. If you accept the request I don't think it gives them any privileges. You can also change your mind later and block them. |

The one 'privilege' I can think of, that comes with an accepted Friend
request is that they (and you) could then exchange Testimonials. Also, if they are a Friend, you can exchange emails without it posting to your Recent Activity..IF you went through the Friend's page to do it. Otherwise, some collect friends like trophies. It is easier certainly, to find them there :-) |

Otherwise, some collect friends like trophies. And sucks them like toffees... |

A lot of "folks" will send friend requests or add you to their "favorites" just to get you to notice their profiles. Or they are new to the site and just start clicking on things to find out what happens.

i prefer getting to know someone in private message before sending or accepting a friend request

i prefer getting to know someone in private message before sending or accepting a friend request Exactly I delete about 60-80 friends requests weekly because I have no clue who they are. I will request or accept a friends request for a forum user pretty much always... As far as just blindly accepting someone from out of the blue nope not going to happen. |

Oh nevermind.. I keep forgetting I'm a notorious .. womanizer..yup.... I really have to work on that part of my personality.... but but you women are just so soft and cuddly.. it's hard not to love you... okay maybe I should not love you all at the same time that could be a problem ohh.. light bulb comes on lol yes now I see why you would want to kill me |

I see absolutely no benefits with accepting friends on my account. When someone says they are putting me into their "favorites", it means nothing to me.

Generally if I have not read a lot of a persons posts or email back and forth to have and opinion of the person I will not add them as friends.
If I tell someone I consider them my friend it has a certain degree of loyalty and support rather than just the crossing paths type that seems common on some other media sites. If someone does ask I usually just ignore it if they are newbies even though I do try to welcome people when I have time. Some construe that at personal interest which it is not. |

To blindly accept a friend request without knowing them could be giving some credence to a scammer. Welcome to Mingle2 and good luck in your search. |

A friend request is sended to know the person a little better;because the sender saw some special or particular information in her/his profile.
A "favorite person" is someone with some interesting aspects or facts to others. Good and gentle people exists yet in this world; I believe that. |

Frank you really right about that abs I didn't see any big deal from it and once you join a site like only people could send you friend request but like he mentioned just be selective
|

Ive been here for years and cant recall ever getting one 'friend request'. All i get are 'matches' with beautiful girls that have 2 pics, which are the same, and they end up living nowhere near where their profile said. Typically in their first message to me they want to chat outside of mingle where they then have a cam for me too see but of course needs my cc# to verify me age.....99% of the the girls I chat with are like this. The 1% that was not....I dated for a year and she is now married......not to me of course.

90% of my friend requests are from people who can NOT pass my restrictions. They could... Send a nudge. But since they are very young, overseas & probably new to date sites. They think this is like F@c@book
