Hi Ladynluv2be ,
You're right. The scammers ARE slick. That's why they're scammers. The online equivelent of the ones who used to be on the steet corners doing everything from asking you for "two tens for a five" to selling you a New York city block. Their scams become more and more sophisticated as time goes on. The only advice I can give is to remember something a wise person once told me: "If something sounds too good to be true, then it is". Think someone's trying to scam you? Report them. |

well I think they are trying to scam me but not sure. I meet them here and then their profile was deactivated 2 days later, we are talking on yahoo. I have asked Mike what they have to avoid this, scammers being on this site. I searched 15 sited today for one of his pics I have or his names and so far nothing

The profile "Petty" contacted me and I added 'her' (or him, not sure) to my Yahoo! Messenger as "petkay4", if you look at 'her' bio on Yahoo! ( http://profiles.yahoo.com/petkay4?warn=1 ), it says 'her' name is Petty Mary Scott. I did a little research cause that's just the type of person I am, AND 'she' was insistent on knowing my real name, anyway I came across this site that shows scammers ( http://www.romancescam.com/album/displayimage.php?pos=-209 ) and 'she is on it with several different emails, names, and locales, and of people who have been scammed by this person (The pics aren't of this person, they got them from a modeling site). I wasn't one of them, but I thought people should be warned about 'her', especially you guys out there that have been contacted by 'her', and, of course, the administrators of this great site. Any questions and I'll be happy to answer them. "adidas0068"

heh, that scammer site is pretty cool! I didn't even know that site (or any like it actually) existed.
however, my rule of thumb is simple. Single profile pic and limited information. do not trust. the prettier the girl the less likely its a real picture. gloss air brushed pictures, are after market. there are a few other giveaways, but i'm too tired to remember them... |

i've come across scammers on several sites...some are the same person using the same pic and different name...one that i came across talked a really good game till he asked me for $3000. the ones i come across most often start talking to you telling you they are widowed and have a teenage child. they make it sound real and then they get around to telling you they are working in another country, but will be back in the states soon...shortly after that is when they get around to asking you for money. you have to be very careful because some of them are really good at scamming people. if you think you're talking to a scammer ...report them! thats the only way to get them off here.

another thing that makes you stop and think...when they ask u to add them to yahoo messenger...look at their yahoo profile...most have no pic and NO information on the profile i add no one that doesn't have both on their profile.

I posted my "scammer" story under the "PETTY is a scammer" thread in the Feedback section, if anyone wants to read it. It happened on another site I was on earlier this year(I've since deactivated). I've only came across one questionable one here on JSH, a woman who e-mailed me from Jamacia, wondering if I wanted to pay her for phone conversations. Geez, I'm not THAT hard up for companionship ! I reported her and she deactivated the next day.

Does anyone know of a sight that you can put in a screen name, or specifics from profile, or picture to search? Better safe than sorry. If someone is not a scammer they should be glad that you are smart enough to be cautious and do research.

You have to use common sense no matter how hard you want to believe something. The bottom line if it is too good to be true or you question yourself at all, believe it is a scam... It is basic human nature and the cons feed off of this.
