her words apply to everyone, because she speaks of not 'letting' boys behave that way. Who else is 'letting' them, but other men and the rare women of influence in their lives? I hear you loud and clear, but I have a grandson, several nephews, two brothers, a slew of friends, a few ex's and a father (now deceased) who did not and do not "let" men behave in the manner she describes... Clearly a social issue, clearly one that not all men practice.... |

Seems to me that her poem is all about American black music and black culture. If you don't like that sort of music don't listen to it or go to those clubs. No newsflash though that pop stars are sex symbols and that the biggest sex symbols are the most successful pop stars. This whole thing just sounds like every post sexual revolution feminist rant. Kind of tedious. Taking the worst examples that you can find and then saying that everything else reinforces it. Women dancing and shaking their booties in music videos? Oh the humanity.

What she does is not dancing coming from a dancer. Each to their own. I like Iggy Pop and he dances like a crazy fool, humps amplifiers and sometimes gets his knob out on stage. Sorry if you think that my liking that sort of music and finding rock star antics entertaining is immoral but in my opinion popular music is becoming bland enough as it is without a bunch of uptight people starting some anachronistic decency campaign. Also, who listens to gangster rap anyway? What is this? The eighties? |
