For me, it's simply this, adults are free to produce, promote, and listen to this crap if they wish, because as adults hopefully their self image and ideas of their roles in relationships have already been formed, but parents have the ultimate say in what their kids with young, impressionable minds, who have not yet determined their roles, their self images not yet formed, listen to and take in. My parents limited what I listened to, that was part of their job, responsible parents have been doing that since the beginning of time. When I became an adult and out of their home, I was free to listen to and dance however I wished, as are all of you adults because by then hopefully we have learned that this is nothing more than a money making scheme and the producers of this crap couldn't care less what kind of self image your kid or mine has, they're just pushing a product. Kids will eat cookies and drink soda all day too if their parents don't step in and control what they're taking in. Sounds to me like we are in total agreement, Lil  Here, here! Lack of responsible parenting can lead to thuggery and winding up in prison or dead in the streets. |

isn't it so strange how people are so tired of crooks and criminals blaming their parents or how they were raised for their choices but some of the same people feel free to do just that Who said life was fair MsHarmony ...There is truth though and one truth is there is no such thing as a perfect parent...Good parents can end up with bad kids just as bad parents can end up with good kids...However, consistently poor parenting almost always produces negative consequences...Also, bad parenting can be cyclic because many of us parent the way we were parented...I bet more problems stem from bad parenting than from the effects of listening to crappy music with nasty lyrics and suggestive videos though...When I was growing up, it was dirty magazines...If we could get our hands on them, we looked because we were naturally curious...

Good parents can end up with bad kids just as bad parents can end up with good kids agreed and part of that is because there are OTHER things that ALSO Influence young minds, besides their parents,,, Agreed...and part of it is health issues and part of it is peer pressure and part of it is immaturity and part of it is poverty and so on and so on...But the majority of it is bad parenting, not bad music...If you go where the young "lady" in the video is going, where does it end?...How much do we ban or forbid our children to see?....and will any of that stifle creativity?...or will it only usurp choices and undermine opportunities?....The best we can do is teach our children well.... |

Society and the law are dealing with bad-seed elements when they rear they fugly wittle heads.
Example. A parent with absolutely zero work ethic raises two kids. One kid could turn out to be an asset to society and the other wind up being a leech like the useless parent. |

A life dictated by others and death at 30 wouldn't be utopia at all, but there is such a thing as a balance of things we will never stop prostitution, for instance, and maybe prostitution is not all bad to every single person but it certainly wouldn't be terrible to consider other OPTIONS that we can present to people besides prostituting themselves the op wasn't speaking about banning anyone or forcing anyone to do anything,, she simply gave her opinion of how the music and behaviors towards women maker her feel AS A WOMAN not EVERY woman feels that way, and thsta THEIR prerogative I really don't even see how this turned into some huge debate I mean, I understand the concept "I don't agree with what you say but defend your right to say it' but with that is the right for people to disagree with what and how others say what they choose to say,,,, its really not that serious,,, |

please don't take it that I support 'limiting' artistic expression we live in a 'free market', and because of that there is a natural limit that happens based upon what the market calls for and what people are willing to buy I support the idea that some of us women(the ones who choose to effect a change in the cultural view of women) and men stop patronizing and supporting the images that we don't feel represent us well,, if not enough people are buying it, it stops being pushed, if there is enough of an interest in buying it, it starts being pushed more Im hoping more people will buy the images that portray women as intelligent, and sporty, and successful,,etc,,,,,in place of the images that portray women as meat in a store to be inspected and purchased for use,,, that's all, Sure I will buy the message, but would rather meet one in person |

some folks are bound to miss the point, especially if they only listen for a few seconds. exactly,,,the lyrics are powerful and though she gives the perspective of a woman of color dealing with men of color, the message isn't applicable to any one race of people at all but to all it happens across musical genres and across western culture,, as far as the objectifying of women goes,,,, its all subjective,, comparing degrees of objectification is kind of hard |

Bold message to value each other and self Not really all that bold. Mostly the same old message. "Waa waa, men aren't nice. Waa waa, women are strong and powerful but really just want to play victims and just take what men are doing and do it our way and tell you that you doing it is doing it wrong because I am in a constant game of 'anything you can do I can do better, I can do anything better than you, and you better agree and acknowledge it...and if I can't or you don't then you're an a-hole, plus if you continue to do it you're oppressing me.' So why haven't you simply accepted that and provided me my emotional and physical utopia." That's been the message for a while now. It's almost the same as the "bold" message a 4 year old makes when he tells momma "I'm not a baby! Don't treat me like a baby! I can do it myself! I love you, you love me, we're a big happy family!" I guess I could have made that into a rap but I am just not as "bold" as that "genius" from youtube. |
