Topic: Is this obscene? | |
---|---|
Like most social networking websites, F******k has rules against posting naked pictures of yourself (or anyone else). It's a good rule -- mostly because it keeps pornographers from creating fictitious profiles just to promote their websites (and let's be honest, even if we're friends, I probably don't want to see you naked).
But where's the line? The site has recently come under fire for removing pictures of breastfeeding mothers, and banning users on the grounds that they'd uploaded "obscene content" to their profiles. In response, nearly 7,500 users have joined a group on the site called "Hey Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!" The company has responded by saying that they aren't removing photos of breastfeeding, but merely anything that shows an exposed breast (which violates their Terms of Use). However, many mothers say they've had photos removed in which no breast was exposed -- leading many to wonder about the site's real intentions. Others who have been banned for posting breastfeeding photos have been told by Facebook that their accounts won't be re-instated under any condition -- even though the photos have been removed from their profiles. All this, when it's been established time and again that breastfeeding in public is legal, and companies that discriminate against breastfeeding mothers are routinely fined for doing so. I have a feeling that -- if push comes to shove -- this may eventually get the site in some hot water (as well it should). Source: http://www.parentdish.com/2007/09/07 Really makes me question their censorship ( and of sites in general) when you can see pictures of suggestive photos (although not nude) and heck they allow men with man-b**bs.. "There's nothing obscene about the human body."
That statement is just silly and thoughtless. |

Hello Spider, and everyone else who posted:
Some people, like Spider, may find that the human body is obscene and needs to be covered, due to upbringing, religious background, etc. I personally am not in that boat and I find the human form sacred and beautiful, though it is certainly something that can be abused (in more than one way). But breastfeeding is a natural and HEALTHY instinct, and sitting on a dirty toilet seat in a public restroom to protect peoples eyes is a bit excessive. Many mothers are proud of their relationships with their young and see it as a necessary part of who they are. I feel like this is another topic that will always be fought over but a resonable resolution will never be reached. Where is the freedom in that? |

Everybodu has rules & rules are meant to be followed
Don't like the rules, don't go there. You can always start your own site. Then you set the rules. |

Hi Miss B
Sherrie Harry oh heck, everyone.. Looks like there might be a challenge for the site owners, of the company you mentioned... In a world gone mad... I personally find the human form beautiful, and a mother feeding her child, one of the most natural things in the world... I like being silly, and apparently thoughtless too. |
|
|
|
Why in the world would anyone want to post a pic of themselves breast feeding to begin with? Would any of you want us men to post a pic of us taking a piss? That is a natural occurence as well.

Indeed, we do all need silly and thoughtless moments to stay leveled!
The Breastfeeding "problem," has created extreme feminist groups like "the militant breast-feeding cult," which to me is just as extreme and negative an outlook as that of the groups who are trying to lock breastfeeding women in rooms away from everyone else's eyes (extreme over-dramatization). Healthy balance, tolerance, and acceptance is a must here- can we all understand that a baby needs to eat when a baby needs to eat? |

Wouldn't the "human body" include "bodily functions"? Do any of you see something wrong with someone having a BM, urinating or masturbating in public?
Now if you are talking about "naked body" as in the human form, then I can see that point of view. |

S'ok Steve, I forget you aren't a laidback bbq-ing Aussie...
Knicker twisting classes are that way I think--------> |
|

I feel that you could post a pic. of yourself taking a wee if you felt is was beautiful- it is your choice, it doesn't mean I can't avert my eyes because I don't want to look at it. Most would not agree with me, but hey, to each their own (and... yay for following the rules and then venturing out to create our own utopias?)

I'll forgive you Jess, you're too fun to get mad at. Thank you for the welcomes!

I wonder sometimes why the human body has to be tucked away...and how obscenties, real and imagined came about.
I do understand from an historical veiwpoint, and from religious veiwpoints...but this 'mystery', this 'illusion' of perceived insatiable desires that will occur at the very sight of a naked body, as well as natural functions of the human body has been so shrouded with taboos. Sometimes I just dont get the human species at all.. *Insert scratching head emoticon* |

I have major issues with facebook.... but I won't go there right now........
Yes, true the human body is nothing to be ashamed of but we are living in a society where everything must be covered up....and can be offensive to "some". It all comes down to what is "politically" correct of the day!! |
