In the case of teaching your children or a job interview then by all means yes. If its something casual like this site then no. I have had grammer nazi's attack me for a misspelled word and I think wow what must they be like at home does everyone have to be perfect. I have read your posts and I don't think you would go out of your way to hurt someones feelings though. Thank you Jack. I certainly did not mean to upset anyone. I have let many spelling errors go without commenting about them. I am not perfect either. I do apologize for stepping on toes. Why is spelling not important to express on social sites? I don't know about this...unless it is misspelled on purpose it makes you look not too bright. JMO |

I know I upset somebody for correcting his/her spelling. Is it wrong to do so? Is correct spelling and grammar a thing of the past? My kids seem to have very little spelling homework. Is this not a concern to be teaching our kids and generations to come about spelling correctly and being grammatically correct? I have noticed that even books have been published with major spelling errors. Just curious what others think about this. If you were to try and correct the spelling in all the posts from people living in countries where English is not the first language you would have more than a full time job! However, correcting their errors would probably be most appreciated as a free English lesson. If only for the reason that so many are not native English speakers, ensuring our spelling is correct is essential for them to understand our posts should they need to refer to a dictionary. Correcting the spelling of native English speakers is something I would not do, a lot of computers have spell checkers and most homes have an English dictionary, no reason for anyone to make spelling mistakes in my opinion. My grandchildren in Australia receive little spelling homework, if they pass the spelling test in school they are not given any, that is a good incentive! |

Forum users who take other users to task for spelling and grammar errors are known as Grammar Nazis ...The main reason they run the risk of not being well liked is because they kill the fun, interrupt the rhythm, offend the offender, come off sounding superior...Linguistic purity seekers will not only be disappointed in the response such "tutoring" brings, they could end up being flagged as thread killers by other members ...On the internet, content always trumps spelling and grammar errors...People are here for the entertainment value ...Grammar Nazis also forget the fact that, more often than not, they are correcting someone they know very little about...If the person is dyslexic, Grammar Nazis run the risk of hurting their feelings ...It's really about using common sense...No one wants to be dressed down in front of their peers, because it's embarrassing... PS: The flower is because I think you are a sweetie :) |

Errors I don't mind. What drives me crazy is the text talk or just shortening words because 1 extra letter seems to be too much effort

Unless they want to learn. {Grammar and spelling Nazis} If you can't or don't want to decipher what someone else is saying Simply don't read it... {sheer genius} http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKMD_8-tj5c |

(((((JP))))))Much Love Don't worry about it
I remember when I first came here in 08,and I used to say,"Is this spelled right?"my friends would correct me and we would joke and laugh about it.I still cannot spell or type proper grammer. I just don't care enough to ask anymore, and I manage to get my point across. They love me anyway. Thank God. It took me forever to learn how to spell,Beautiful (((Leigh)))said it best |

Errors I don't mind. What drives me crazy is the text talk or just shortening words because 1 extra letter seems to be too much effort Most computers and smartphones have s spell check feature. I see Grammar and spelling as things that seem to have disappeared. I think some people use text talk so they don't have to type as much. Also. some phones(including mine) have a feature where words can be dictated in texts and emails. I guess to each his own. I try and check my entries and things like that. Heck, even though I check those things, I still miss a few. |

That is on me and I am sure there are others such as me. This proves the old song I used to listen to about people making the world go round. Peace!!! |

I do not call attention to anyone's errors in posts or communication (that is not in my job description). However, a person's use of the language DOES “speak for them.”
When deciding if I wish to communicate with a person, I DO consider their spelling, grammar, punctuation – and particularly their word usage. I have difficulty communicating with those who repeatedly mistake (or don't know the difference between) – your, you're – to, two, too - their, there – site, cite – hear, here – pair, pear – waste, waist – know, no (etc) Typing in all caps is as difficult to read as typing with no capitalization, and demonstrates lack of consideration for the language and the reader. With spell checkers readily available all of us should be able to avoid most of the common spelling mistakes. |

I actually welcome positive constructive criticism. I know I do things that I am not aware of and would not know it until someone told me in a positive way. |

Just being a blue collar working man who's not trying to be something he's not.I agree its not to hard to hit the spell check button but doing that, does that make someone smarter or lessen their knowledge of life? Its been my life experience that all things are not perfect and that includes people, for myself I am more interested in the content of a person not their imperfections. Sometimes the ones that are perceived as stupid are actually are the smartest people in the room. |
