I've never understood the ideal of a "SOUL MAAAAATE" (cue orchestra).
A belief like that comes from one of two places: 1. We either believe that everyone who ever loved US fell short of what was expected (cause if they were our 'Soul Mate'we'd be bathed in the oiliness of it), OR We believe the partners we chose were Love Morons", incapable of accepting the depth, and purity, of OUR love. So the solution we come up with is to WITHOLD our love, our deepest love, until Soul MATE" appears. Nevermind that there are 7 billion people to choose from. We invent the soul mate to give OURSELVES an excuse to remain separate. I think SEX is as powerful as it is because it gives a glimpse of the soul inside If ****ing a body was zippity=do-da fantastic all on it's own, we wouldn't need the Soul Mate myth. The lovers we return to are the ones whose souls are slamming against the walls inside, hoping to be seen. So no more 'soul mate' , 'Santa', 'Tooth Fairy' whining. Go get laid, and love EVERYONE the way you want to be loved. |

I would say it depends on how you define a soul mate. One movie I saw which was made by the LDS church had a boy and girl who were in love before they were born and when they met in life after being born they were instantly attracted to each other. This is also what most seem to think what true love is.
I would discount the possibility of a soul mate. But looking only for that person I think can get people into trouble. They think they've found that person and before you know it they're being used as a drug mule or robbing a bank or showing up on an episode of cops. It's probably largely a romantic notion. But that mean that it doesn't happen? I don't think so. I'm sure there are those of us who find someone who fits with them perfectly. Just look at Bonnie and Clyde. lol |

Hi Tintin, welcome to mingle
Soulmates is a wonderful way of putting "true love". It's the ultimate in connections into another human. I have seen some who have had this and only stayed with the one person through life, and I have also seen soulmate as a more general thing where the person is so loving that their whole soul was givin over to whom they happened to be with and others around them. Is there a soulmate? I think this answer can only come from you and your connection to your partner and of course your soul, and who owns your soul. I do totally believe in destined love. I also believe that we are the ones who either are open to destiny or are the ones who stand blocking the path of it, making our destiny and us being one in a way. One thing though, if I may. Don't spend you life in the guilt or fear of missing destiny. If you do you might be looking for the skies to open and miss the cloud you are already sitting on. |

The concepts of "soul mate" and "true love" are artificial concoctions. Whoever created them must have been trying to sell something to gullible people.

There's lots of info to be found on the net on soul-mates, twin-souls, twin-flames and your twin-ray. There's books on the subject too, there are in Dutch, so I assume there are books in English on it as well.
They can help you understand how it works, how you can tell etc. If by "soulmate" you mean true love, I believe in that too. But true love doesn't mean it will last a life-time. |

Very good question, Tintin. Personally, I believe there is a degree of telepathy in every significant relationship. A higher-than-usual degree sparks the soul-mate question.
But, for me, it seems different from sex, which seems to come from outside the body, rather than outside the brain or soul. Maybe if you got both in the same package.... |

Twice I thought I had found my soul mate or it was at the time. After about 7 years with both I fell out of love. Now I'm hoping for a 3rd, at the end of my life but how many chances do you get might be me, myself and I till the end.

Do we really have a soulmate? And how can we tell that its her/him? You know, I've been hurt by somone I thought was my soulmate, but clearly he wasn't. However, I still believe in a soulmate! I don't think a soulmate just IS... like some supernatural thing. I think people WORK at the relationship to become soulmates. |
