Topic: Would you give up a pet for a relationship? | |
---|---|
Another thread sparked this one. Would you give up your pet for someone you're dating? Would you expect someone to give up a pet for you? For what reasons would you consider doing this?

phew, difficult one. Depends on the reasons why. I know someone with a partner with serious allergies for cats. That would be a very good reason. Also depends where your pets would go to if you decide to give up the pet. If it could go to a good friend, family, it's different from simply taking it to a shelter.
Very difficult decision though ... I'm nuts about my cats! The other way round, I don't like particular dogs. Could be a problem if my partner had one of them. It's not just not liking, some dogs scare the bejeezus out of me. So if he had such a dog, I wouldn't dare go in, and NO WAY would I agree to living together. So if he was adamant about keeping it, it would be a problem. One of my girlfriends has a Stafford-shire terrier. Friggin' animal almost ate me alive when I went round the other day. And instead of taking the animal off me, she just let it jump all over me. Great! I'm not going over to her place anymore, lol. I'd have a prob with snakes as well |

I would expect anyone with a severe fear or allergy to bring it up immediately. |

No.
If they don't like pets, then they are not the person for me. If they have allergies or fears, I can understand and accept that. |

Reluctantly...they better have an allergy though, like I do for cats, which I love btw.

No. That thing has been with me for a lot of my life. He hasn't. If he happened to have an allergy to fur, I could meet up with him at his place, if he's bothered by me having pets. If I wouldn't give away a child, then I'd not do that to a pet either. I'd feel like I was breaking their heart. Too precious to me.

No. That would be very irresponsible of me. Made a commitment to my animals. They deserve me carrying out my promise to them. Animals are not throw away items.

I Didn't know I was a cat person until my 2 buddies came running out of the woods on a dark July 4th many moons ago. They are brothers and were abandoned or kicked out or perhaps lost as 3 month old kittens. The black cat ran right up to me while in a meowing fit, stood up on his back legs, place both his paws as high as he could on my leg, and seemed to say, " You will do, now, take me to my new home. Oh, and my brother can come too if you please."
They looked like cats due to their size and grew into Humongous, loving, caring, lap cats that are more like dogs than cats. One eats anything, fruits, vegetables, crackers, POPCORN lol, and both demand to be in my arms as much as possible. I am not digressing. My point here is that behind every animal and his/her pet human, there is a tale of bonding, adventure (of sorts), ups and downs, sickness and health, Joyous and sad times, etc. Doesn't that sound like a relationship with another human(s)? Perhaps children of sorts? Look, people, if you are spiritual enough to realize this isn't the end, and that we have souls, then you MUST realize THEY have souls too, or you're blind. Trading my 'kids' away because someone else wanted me too, or because of my own selfish desires is not even something I could contemplate. EN - OH. Not now, not ever, not for any reason. They are worth it, and so am I. Anyone who doesn't see that as a strength in my character, an aspect of rigid loyalty, is not worth having me in their life. Just my worthless opinion. |

So you would get into a relationship with someone who had a dog you were scared of and expect him to give it up? I would expect anyone with a severe fear or allergy to bring it up immediately. Errr ... Do you come with an off-switch for feelings? I don't. I'm not talking arranged relationship here, about being in love with a bloke. And sorry, I can't simply switch those feelings off if he happens to have a dog that scares the living daylights out of me. How that was to be resolved, I don't know. That's why I said: difficult decision! And okay, your OP states "for someone your dating". From what I understand dating is simply a test-drive, no strings attached, so why would one get rid of a loved pet for a date? So in that case the answer is simple: No. |

it a yes for me

Pft nope!

Can I make her give up her crazy mom? (I seem to date women with crazy mom's).

Never. This |

No way in Hell!
I adore my woman. I am thrilled she accepted and loves my (our) dog. That being said...I would chose any dog I have ever had..... over any human I have ever known. A dog loves you or it don't.....trust is NEVER an issue. With people....it's a crap shoot. |

Hell No!That is not even up for debate!!
