Topic: dating a non drinker | |
---|---|
There's live music at local bars around here. I go check out local bands often. So, if the person I'm dating doesn't want to drink, that's fine, but if he refused to go anywhere people drank, that would be an issue. that not a issue with me, but woman look at me in a weird way when I say I don't and wont drink I was told I'm too boring to date because I can't keep up.
A woman said this exact same thing to me a long time ago. By the time I was done with her she never wanted to say that again to me,or any other man for that matter. You see, Here is the truth of the matter. If a person, man or woman, can't have any fun without alcohol in them,They have a problem. Not the person who doesn't drink. I may step on some toes here. But when it comes to booze,There's nothing about it I don't know. I know that road. I've been down it. You take a person who just has to have a beer,or whatever their drug of choice may be. If they can't have fun with other people without a drink,It's a personality flaw. It's the truth whether they like it or not. When you get off from work at the end of the week and all you want to do is kick back the next few days and have a few beers, Wed comes and you're already thinking about it. Thursday comes and you can almost taste it. Friday morning,And all day at work you're already thinking about your stop to pick up your Blue Ribbon. 5:pm and out the door you go. Your mouth is wet with anticipation of that first cold one. You can't get to the store fast enough. It bugs you because you are stuck in the check out lane. Some pecker head got ahead of you with two shopping carts full of almost everything in the store. And to cap it all off,They are paying for everything with coupons. You finally make it through the check out. You hurry home to get it on ice with what you already have. You finally get to pop that cold one. The one thing you don't realize,You gotta problem. You gotta monkey on your back. You can't have any fun with people who don't drink. You are so use to having some booze whenever you are out anywhere or have people over at your place,You have absolutely ZERO personality without your liquid crutch. It goes deeper than this. This is just a part of it. I've been through it and out the other side. Nothing I don't know about it. I'll tell you this though. If you meet someone and that person has a drink here and there, They control the booze,The booze doesn't control them,They can have a drink and be social. They know their stopping point and they never cross it. You never see that person drunk. They don't drink to get drunk. She/he could care less that you don't drink. They are OK with it, They may be OK if you want to date. But, If you see everything besides this, RUN! That person will make your life a miserable he11 if you get in to deep with them. Experience. |

Maybe you're simply hanging out with the wrong women?
In a way it shouldn't matter, but if one likes to get blind drunk and the other doesn't drink at all, I can understand there's a bit of a problem there. I would absolutely not get involved with a man who drinks a lot. Occasionally, at a party or going out, but not too often and definitely not blind drunk. For some reason or other I simply don't like drunken people (and "don't like" is an understatement). To be honest I particularly dislike drunken women. Can't stand the way they behave. Again, maybe it shouldn't matter, but if drinking habits are extremely different, it could get somewhat difficult. |

I see it as like dating a non-smoker. From their point of view do you really think they would want to taste the alcohol or cigarettes on your breath? Yes chewing gum can help hide the taste but it doesn't cover everything up. There are also exceptions to every rule. Except rule 34 I have yet to find an exception to that rule....

IDK...I like my sake with my sushi and red wine with a good steak or spaghetti....I wouldn;t have a problem dating someone who does not drink but I don;t think it would be a good match. I don;t drink all that often but when I do I do not want to feel "watched" and if I have one more than usual.... I don;t want an argument. I am in my 50s, if I wanna get tipsy a few times a year it's no one elses beeswax....I do not drnk & drive and I do not get "drunk." still I think it's better if people are on the same page
At the same time I totally could not date a smoker |

Absolutely I could! Drinking alcohol is just a form
of escapism. It's a crutch to lean on when people try in vain to get away from their problems. Not saying I never drank before. I've done it a handful of times. These days I hardly drink at all. People can still have a lot of fun, and not drink. They will also remember what they did the prior day. Not to mention feel a lot better. ![]() |

I come from a family full of alcoholics, and know what damage it can do to a family. |

I don't drink and my woman doesn't drink. problem solved ![]() I'll bet it helps not to have someone there to tempt you. My Dad used to drink heavily, but my Mother hardly drank at all. My Dad quit when his disease, severe rheumatoid arthritis got bad. Great guy. Loved him then and still do. Still love both my parent's very much. I still had to listen to a lot of heated arguments growing up. I hated being caught in the middle of it sometimes. |
