. . . any kind of group prayer if it is a public rather than private group is inappropriate.

That above-quoted claim is a subjective claim.

I have been discussing what the U.S. Constitution permits and doesn't permit.

Nothing in the First Amendment prohibits a group public prayer involving the general public.

...if the citizens of town put together a community festival and someone got up on a pedestal and conducted a group prayer, that I would object to.

Then perhaps you shouldn't attend such a festival. Even if a festival is held on public property, it will still have private funding.

There is a difference between objecting to something because it is unconstitutional (which I have done) and objecting to something because it conflicts with your personal beliefs.

I agree completely.

One is against the law, and the other is just inappropriate and rude.
As I said, there is no law against being rude. LOL If there were, I'd be in jail.

Why is no one but me offended? Why aren't they sued to shet da' fck up?

They forcing the public tho listen to that trash.

Why are they allowed a pass and other public open verbal religious displays are condemned?

Ghetto blasters? I think they can be arrested for disturbing the peace.

If not, then the Christians should get out their ghetto blasters and follow them around doing the same. laugh laugh

You try to turn every thread into a discussion about muslims. Why are you so obsessed with muslims? Which US cities are they doing the call to prayer all over "ghetto blasters?"

You didn't answer my question.

what do you think would actually happen IN A REAL LIFE SITUATION if a skull and bones member who worships Moloch demands to say his prayer? Or what if a Muslim member demands to say his prayer? The entire meeting could be taken up with everyone saying their prayers.

It is either that, or pick one specific religion and force everyone in attendance to listen to a prayer to a god they don't believe in.

Nope, it should not be allowed.

Is that a religion recognized by the united states?

I don't understand the question. I was not aware that "the United States" had a list of "recognized religions."

Of course they do. If they didn't everyone would invent their own religion for tax exempt status...

Um.... no they don't. We are allowed to invent any religion we like. That's were religions come from. We invent them.

Ghetto blast, I know, it's and ancient term.

Islam is a religion, no? Why would you exepmt them from loud and rude crowd?

Brooklyn, New York, many, many, many other cities.

Where did I say I exempted them from anything? I asked you why you were obsessed and which US cities you were talking about. I think hearing it on loud speakers would be just as annoying as hearing other prayers on loud speakers.

All you have to do to be a religion or start one is create a non-profit organization based on a belief, get ordained by any legitimate church, and to have your own church, have meetings, and do some charity work.

No, they don't have a list that you can't get on pretty easy.

Paul Twitchell, founded Eckankar after writing some books, gaining a following and filing for a non-profit status.

He ordained himself and claimed to be the representative of God for the entire universe. He was on the list...as a legitimate religion.

All "religions" begin as "cults" including Christianity.

I haven't sued anyone, so I'm not the one to ask that. You still haven't told us why you're obsessed with muslims and try to turn every topic into something about them.

He hates Muslims. (That could be called being anti-semitic because essentially, Most Muslims are Semitics.) No offense meant to him of course. I get called anti-Semitic for criticizing Zionism.

I don't see the point in excluding any religion from being loud and obnoxious.

Folks want to sue over quietly done public prayer and not a damn thing is said about the loud and obnoxious ghetto blasting the Islamists do.

Not one fckin' thing about hate.

Why are all my posts referred to as hate instead of focusing on the public rude and unconstitutional ghetto blasting. That is pushing a faith off on others, IMO.

Their 'list' is easy to get on so its NO BIG DEAL REALLY.

They only care about the corporate status of the organization anyway. Any non-profit organization can claim to be a church, and a church still must contribute a certain amount of charity to society in order to maintain their non profit status.

It does not matter if you call yourself a church.... it is the corporate status that the government looks at.

Every church has to be a corporation no matter what "religion" they claim to be.
