I would hope I'd find out they were allergic in the very beginning. And if that was the case, I'd let them know I am not planning on getting rid of my pet later on if we became more serious.

Do you expect people to just give up their pets for you because you have allergies? What happens when it doesn't work out? They're without a relationship and the pet they gave up.

There are medications for those with allergies. If a relationship is that important, perhaps look into that if your potential girlfriend has pets? Or make it known immediately that you have allergies and you can't date someone with pets?

I don't get involved with people who have cats. Problem solved because those so called medicines do NOT work...

Seriously though, that's rough! I think if somoene chooses their cat over their alleged love, it may not be love. Love for your animal is not the same as romantic love. I loved my dog more than most of my friends and if I had a situation like that, I suppose it would really test my love for the man.

So, do you think it will comfort to him, as he packs, to know that it was a really hard decision?

Falling in love may not happen quickly. How long do you wait to decide to get rid of your pet in favor of your partner? Does he just not come over to your place until you've decided to get rid of your pet? Or, does this all happen in the beginning?
