I recently came across a profile where this young lady had written about leaving this site because men use words like baby, honey, beautiful ect when messaging her and shes highly offended that men would speak that way to her when she doesnt even know them and why are all the men just trying to f**k her on a dating site... My response to her is as follows lol: I just wanted to say that after reading your profile rant i was shocked. This site like mant others have the option for "casual encounters" meaning that there are people on here just wanting to get down and dirty. If thats offensive to you maybe you should try "E Harmony" or "Christian Mingle" You are a beautiful women so why take offense to someone telling you they think you are? I use the word hon alot in messages, is that wrong as well. I swear politeness is so rare these days that some people mistake it for flurtation...Please, message me back. Puleese  those christian sites are just as bad!
Anywwho... Ranting is all good in the forums...it's what we're here for

I met a man online about 3 years back. We met inperson after talking on phone for two months. We disagreed on many things after meeting in person and I didn't want a second date even though the first date went well I thought. He would always call me "Sweetheart" when got into an argument and say lets talk this out, we can do it. I didn't like how he used that name, to calm me down. It did not work on me! And, no telling how many women he called "Sweetheart" and I told him that as well.  He was a Reitred Marine and very controlling.
They out manipulate the manipulation by pretending they don't understand it is manipulation...They do this ALL THE TIME 
Is that code for manipulative ?

Leigh...I think flattery is a form of manipulation. Don't you?...If a man sends me an email that starts off with "Hello Beautiful" I know he's hoping to get in my "good graces." He thinks that flattery will help him get in the door...But it has the totally opposite effect on me..I don't want to be "buttered-up" or charmed or conned...I'm suspicious of people who rely on compliments and flattery. It makes me think of traveling salesmen who used to drive into town and "fed" the residents "lines of baloney" to get them to buy products...Flattery may work with some people but not everyone...When I was growing-up my parents warned me not to take everything that people said to me at "face value." They said that some people might use so-called "charm" and flattery to try to win me over or manipulate me.

Just cause you got a vagina does help...but don't mean you are hot. You chicks gotta throw in more than "I'm sexy and I know it" ....hell...I am sexy too. Flattery and manipulation ain't bad when applied properly. It is only bad and awkward when amateurs are the ones trying to throw out their lame assed mojo...this includes you ladies. |

Flattery is insincere. I have found that women are not only the ones who are suckers for flattery. Men love it and they believe every word. |

Hey Greeneyes....Of course flattery "can be" used as a form manipulation, but it's easy to spot so I don't worry about it, I just enjoy it when I get it!!.  ....It's stimulating, fun, funny, and sometimes it can make you feel better than a day at the spa ...I don't over analyze it because I am not controlled by it...
In terms of "first" contact email, I don't think all greetings that start with flattery are done in an effort to manipulate...Some might be to cover shyness, some stem from social ineptitude and/or language barriers....Some are sincere, some are nothing more than ego and bullchit,...Mostly, I just feel good about knowing that someone is taking the time to make contact cause that's why I joined Mingle in the first place.....

Or excessive "mushy stuff."..I can only take a teeny bit here and there...I don't want to be told that I'm beautiful or pretty or any of that "stuff."...A simple statement like "You look nice today" works best for me if I'm dressed-up for some special event..My focus is not on the way I look on the "outside." I'm just trying to survive and get through each day the best I can.. And I try to learn new things along the way when possible.

Leigh...I guess it's different for me because I'm just here to make friends and post on the forum...I'm still not over losing my husband and both my sons and 4 cats (too) all within a short span of time..I know I'm not ready to date yet and just talk about making friends in my profile...My husband only did "mushy-mushy" with me concerning the way I looked once in awhile. (When I made a special effort to get dressed-up for a special event etc.) And this was fine with me because I don't usually focus much on my outer appearance...My focus has always been on learning new things and expanding my mind and skills as I move through life. And my husband was always full of praise and supportive when it came to my desire to learn and grow and take on new challenges...Anyway I guess I'm just not a normal woman. Maybe I'm a "nerd!" But oh well...I'm happy being me and I wouldn't know how to be any other way!...I'm not mean to men who call me "sweetie-pie" names. But to be honest we just wouldn't be compatible or a good match!
