Do you think a screenname is one of the first clues to what type of person someone is (or wishes to be)?
I think the screen name and the chosen photos gives a fairly accurate first impression,,,I tend to steer clear of the names and pics that indicate a strong interest in alcohol/partying or strong sex based identities,,,, and in the forums, I am finding that, based upon their opinions and statements,,people tend to choose fairly accurate screennames what does your screenname say about you? |

Hmmm you might be correct- I DO like to laugh however that is the outside- my insides are shy, reserved and conservative. Guess the Laughs are kind of my bravado!

My screen name came from Star Wars. Princess Leia called Han Solo a "scoundrel." I added Texas, because that where I'm from and where I live.
Does it accurately describe me? Probably. |

It doesn't say anything other than it being a song I like. So no, I don't put a lot of stock into what people choose for their user names. |

Whenever I visit the "New Members Welcome Area", I frequently figure out the gender of a new person here simply by reading the username, even if the name doesn't actually contain a gender-specific personal name.

Mine is pretty obvious. Its my name with my birth month and day. I usually pick screen names involving my childrens name/s but I didnt find that appropriate for here :)

I think to some degree yes. It all depends on honesty. If one is being truthfull, he will want to convey that. If ego is involved, then his or her screen name will simply be an extention on the ego and the level of pretentistness. As for profile photos, ego is also involved to some degree as well, but a more healthy way. Some prefer their own photo, some prefer anominity, some want to create a sence of mystery, and some are self consciouse about looks or feel that pictures dont capture the true them. And yes, some prefer to just hide. But for the most part screen names might revesl something in many cases. I like mine because 427 is just my birthday.

I think you CAN read a lot into usernames.
Mainly because they seem to want you to. I wanted something simple and unpretentious. You know, to keep the legend in check. |
