Speed of time!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually isn't time just a concept & thus at all related to only our thoughts.( I mean it do not exist physically). So how can it be different than what we think about it? There is no entity called time. It does not exist, so it does not move forward or backward. It does not move at all. There is no time. There is only perception, and cause and effect. Cause and effect move in only one direction therefore the perception of time moving forward in one direction. Sahi hai = Correct |

Time is the space between events. It is the largest of all the dimensions. It is the backdrop which allows existance to be perceived. It is real, it does exist, it's relativity doesn't diminish it's reality. These statements are contradicting each other. Calling time as the space between events is like confining it & making it event dependent, isn't it? Don't THIS ^ mean that if NOTHING happens in the whole universe, then there wouldn't be any time? I mean NO EVENTS so NO SPACE BETWEEN EVENTS means NO EXISTENCE OF TIME!! Do you still think that your above statements are sufficient for proving the existence of time? BTW,What do u exactly mean by " Time is the largest of all the dimensions?" |

There is no time, only "spacetime." Time and space are intimately connected. There can be no time without space. Einstein: "People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." - Albert Einstein Albert Einstein and the Fabric of Time Surprising as it may be to most non-scientists and even to some scientists, Albert Einstein concluded in his later years that the past, present, and future all exist simultaneously. In 1952, in his book Relativity, in discussing Minkowski's Space World interpretation of his theory of relativity, Einstein writes: Since there exists in this four dimensional structure [space-time] no longer any sections which represent "now" objectively, the concepts of happening and becoming are indeed not completely suspended, but yet complicated. It appears therefore more natural to think of physical reality as a four dimensional existence, instead of, as hitherto, the evolution of a three dimensional existence. Einstein's belief in an undivided solid reality was clear to him, so much so that he completely rejected the separation we experience as the moment of now. He believed there is no true division between past and future, there is rather a single existence. His most descriptive testimony to this faith came when his lifelong friend Besso died. Einstein wrote a letter to Besso's family, saying that although Besso had preceded him in death it was of no consequence, "...for us physicists believe the separation between past, present, and future is only an illusion, although a convincing one." Most everyone knows that Einstein proved that time is relative, not absolute as Newton claimed. With the proper technology, such as a very fast spaceship, one person is able to experience several days while another person simultaneously experiences only a few hours or minutes. The same two people can meet up again, one having experienced days or even years while the other has only experienced minutes. The person in the spaceship only needs to travel near to the speed of light. The faster they travel, the slower their time will pass relative to someone planted firmly on the Earth. If they were able to travel at the speed of light, their time would cease completely and they would only exist trapped in timelessness. Einstein could hardly believe there were physicists who didn’t believe in timelessness, and yet the wisdom of Einstein's convictions had very little impact on cosmology or science in general. The majority of physicists have been slow to give up the ordinary assumptions we make about time. The two most highly recognized physicists since Einstein made similar conclusions and even made dramatic advances toward a timeless perspective of the universe, yet they also were unable to change the temporal mentality ingrained in the mainstream of physics and society. Einstein was followed in history by the colorful and brilliant Richard Feynman. Feynman developed the most effective and explanatory interpretation of quantum mechanics that had yet been developed, known today as Sum over Histories. Just as Einstein's own Relativity Theory led Einstein to reject time, Feynman’s Sum over Histories theory led him to describe time simply as a direction in space. Feynman’s theory states that the probability of an event is determined by summing together all the possible histories of that event. For example, for a particle moving from point A to B we imagine the particle traveling every possible path, curved paths, oscillating paths, squiggly paths, even backward in time and forward in time paths. Each path has an amplitude, and when summed the vast majority of all these amplitudes add up to zero, and all that remains is the comparably few histories that abide by the laws and forces of nature. Sum over histories indicates the direction of our ordinary clock time is simply a path in space which is more probable than the more exotic directions time might have taken otherwise. excellent explanations!! |

We do not move backwards or forward through some entity or dimension called "time." Wrong, moving through time is exactly what we do as we age. But, it's a one way street. We cannot stop or go back. "Age" itself means passage of time.So now your sentence become Moving through time is exactly what we do as we pass time!! Is that making any sense?? |

Time does not move backwards or forwards. Right, time itself doesn't move. We do not move backwards or forward through some entity or dimension called "time." Wrong, moving through time is exactly what we do as we age. But, it's a one way street. We cannot stop or go back. The time concept is intimately connected and relative to space and matter. Agreed. But, I think it's clearer to say space and time are one and have and matter effect each other. But because time is a mental concept it is more intimately related to consciousness. And that's where you make the leap into woo woo land. Time isn't a mental concept. It's a physical reality. It can be measured. It can be used to make predictions etc. You can throw around all the pseudoscience and nonsense you want. Rhetoric isn't proof of anything except the that gullible are easily mislead. Of course time is a mental concept. Time is NOT a physical reality. The only way to measure time is by using mental and relative concepts of matter and space. If you subtract matter and space, and go into your mind then time can only be measured relative to your thoughts. Your thoughts are not physical. Put yourself into a sensory deprivation tank or a coma and see how well you can measure time. You can't. You can only guess about time by its relation to your conscious thoughts. Funny, I measure time with a clock. Funny,You will keep on measuring & knowing time while being into a coma?? |

Time exists, but not as an entity. As a relationship between space, and matter.
Much like gravity exists, but not as an entity, it also exists as a relationship between space and matter . . . just a different relationship. |

Much like gravity exists, but not as an entity, it also exists as a relationship between space and matter . . . just a different relationship. How does a "thing" have a "relationship" with anything else if it does not exist? How can a relationship exist unless there are at least two separate things? Are you now saying that space and time are two separate things? I thought you said they could not be separated, and that they were one thing --->spacetime. |

Of course you do. and what is a clock? It is a material object that has 'hands' that moves through space which represents "time." The only way to measure time is by using mental and relative concepts of matter and space. So what? I also use a yard stick to measure distance. Inches, feet, yards and miles are all mental concepts we use to measure distance in space. Time is exactly the same as space. We just move through it in a different direction. |

Physically moving through time is an hyper imagination. Prediction / thinking isn't an actual move through time. From years many have tried to search & provide any evidence for existence of time but no one succeeded, just because it don't exist at all. Time is such a strong illusion that no one can exclude it from facts of life. Almost all physical quantities need time as a base to prove their existence & importance...but it is strange & true that time itself don't have any physical existence. |

Also if I said the faster you eat mexican, the sooner you visit the restroom denotes a relationship without making any claim about the independence of your bowels and you and mexican. Not sure why I try . . . you CANT understand. |

Existence = The fact or state of living or having objective reality. Do time exist? We can measure how time changes when matter moves at significant percentages of the speed of light. Does gravity have a physical existence?
Time is such a strong illusion that no one can exclude it from facts of life. Almost all physical quantities need time as a base to prove their existence & importance...but it is strange & true that time itself don't have any physical existence. If so then so does time. BTW this is a rhetorical question. Also your statement about evidence is completely wrong. |

We can measure how time changes when matter moves at significant percentages of the speed of light. Time changes? how ?? from one form to another ? Matters are changing by time or time is changing with changes in matter? Speed of light itself is referred by time. i.e: Speed = Distance traveled / time. how can we use speed of light to measure time again? I mean are we measuring time by referring to speed or we are measuring speed by referring time?? Our conception of time is related with changes & movement of matters. If everything in the universe stops moving or changing, then would time exist? If yes...then how can we measure time correctly w.r.t changes/ movements of matter. If no....it means time is just a concept which has no separate existence! |

Your statement about evidence is completely wrong. That's why I said..time is such a strong illusion... I am a physicist, and computer science major. It took me months to understand special relativity. I am NOT going to sit here and try to help you through that same process. What I have done is shown you were you can get the material, and presented a few different ways for you to explore the history of the idea and how it has been shown to be true. If you were riding on the back of a satalite spinning around the earth at .99 % the speed of light, after 4 years of this you would be 4 years older, but everyone you knew and loved who were still on earth NOT traveling at .99% the speed of light would be something like 80 years older and long since dead. This relationship between time, space, and matter is a FACT. You can take some time and learn about it, or you can continue to assert it cannot be so. |

There is no division between the past present or future. NONE. Also NOTHING HAPPENS in the past or the future. An event can only happen in the present.... Now. Now is all that exists.
