I think we don't realize the things in life that we take for granted... For instance, I never realized how much I depended on my back to get me where I needed to go and do what I needed to do until it went out...

What do you take for granted?

Something that I have taken for granted until just recently when my Son came to visit. I looked at him and realized how much he looked like his birthfather and could not deny his contribution. And I had to think what a wonderful gift it was that we had created a child that is the light of my life and how long I had not really been grateful for that.

When life is empty I dream of good things to fill it. When good things come, and they're around for a while I wish I could more easily relate to the time when life was empty because I wouldn't waste so much time on the not so good things. Thanks for this thread. Hopefully I can reflect more on when my life was empty so I can better enjoy whats in it now. flowerforyou

I used to take life for granted but not now.

I think probably the freedom of my life. Until I visited other countries, I didn't realise how relaxed our lifestyle is, how little we really have to work to make our lives comfortable and how much we are given for nothingnoway

Nothing! I've learned to treasure each moment, everything I'm blessed to have, all the people in my life past and present. You just never know when the show will be over so I find cause to celebrate life each day, to enjoy watching the grass sway in the wind, or to feel the sunshine on my face. Little things make such a huge difference...

Joy, I can totally relate. I think most people take their health for granted. And, they would do a better job taking care of themselves if they realized how valuable it really is.

interesting question

probably health,, its easy to take health for granted, ours AND that of our loved ones

I am so grateful for our health, but many times I do take it for granted,,,

I think when fatigue, or sadness, or despair strike, its easy to take anything positive for granted. Things I sometimes dont give ENOUGH thanks to(ie, take for granted) are

1. A forgiving God
2. the love and support of my family
3. the health and intelligence of my loved ones
4. having a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, and food in our bellies (most days anyhow)

Illness taught me I should never take life for granted. To take pleasure in the small simple things in life. Also how to find humor in most things. It can really help :)

Great thread and posts!...Well I tried not to take my husband for granted during our decades together! But I know I did at times...Now that he's gone I have a huge "void" in my life. I think about all the wonderful things he said and did everyday to make life easier (for both of us). He was definitely a "team-player!"...And I miss his sense of humor and how he "entertained me" and made me smile and laugh with his "playful ways!"...Plus he was always full of surprises and such an interesting person. (And companion!) He was always open to new "adventures!" And wanted to learn all he could about all aspects of life!...Anyway I definitely miss him! I'm sure he's keeping an "eye" on me from "afar" right now and "cheering me on." (As I try to "muddle through" life without him the best I can!)

This response ain't exactly about taking things for granted but, more like really apprecieating how fortunate I am.

Since, I announced to my family, my work and my friends that Iam pulling up stakes, and moving to Oregon to live a loving and more fulfilled life.....absolutely everyone I know is pitching in to set me on my way with my best foot forward.

My Mom bought me dental surgury and a smile to die for....took ten years off me.

My Dad is repainting my car and having a new windshield installed right now.

My good friends put a new motor in my car.

My best friend drove in to spend the week to nurse me and keep me on my scheduled meds.

I am humbled and really grateful
