Ok, let's say theirs an international law that you can't post a pic of a banana with sunglasses. What happens now?

What if you hide behind multiple proxies and spoofers?

There isn't one, I checked bigsmile

I think his point was that it may be a US law (although it is a vague law and there are some serious loopholes) it is a US LAW and this is an international site. No way to regulate.

I would think that if someone in Canada impersonated someone, the law in Canada would be what is followed. And if it happened in the US, the law in the US would be what's followed.

Depends on where the server is where the image resides. Could be in China, under their laws. But, both the CA. and U.S. users would have to abide by both their countries laws and the laws of china when on that particular site.

We do not heavily enforce this particular statement: "you should be in all photos"

Preferably, yes, you should be in all photos. The problem with that is, people like to express themselves. The main Photo, should be of you, as for the rest, be it a photo of your pets, car, home, etc. does let you say a little bit more about you, your lifestyle and interests.

Also, some people do not wish to make their photos public, for whatever reason, so we do have a private photo option, and the person may use an avatar as their main image.

The main concern for photos are as follows:

No nude/highly suggestive pics, or photos which only focus on one area of the body, as to display certain attributes. I will mention also, that headless/shirtless photos also fall into this category.

Photos which contain personal contact information, such as phone numbers or email addresses are not allowed, as well as personal identification. This is for the safety of our members.

bloody/gory images, intimidating photos, or otherwise disturbing images.

We realize you are all adults here, however, we do want to maintain a decent website.

As for forcing folks to have a photo, i do not think that will happen, no.

i just read this as the main photo should be of the person, but in just in this room alone ,8 people don't have main photo of them self on main and 6 do now 7 with me as for now :) but then again a lot of people know people from their regular pictures of themself or what they put there :)but i don't think its a biggie and like you say ,maybe some are worried or maybe they just like to be a bit different and try a different photo on main picture i know i do and did too cheers :)but if they have 1 on their profile i can't see no reason why they shouldn't be able to use main with something different too in my opinion :)

I can respect other opinion on this even if I don't agree. If someone doesn't want to be associated with someone without a picture...I can respect that. This is my reasons for not having my real picture public....BTW I do have real pictures that are set to private.

1. I've been stalked online and in real life and it's a headache I don't wish to have. I, also, don't want any site or members to have to deal with it either.

2. I'm not looking to meet anyone. Not having a real picture has limited people that do try to contact me to meet. Doesn't catch them all, but nothing is 100%

As far as showing a true age....I could use old pictures of me when I was a little younger or use pictures of my nieces to fool people. How would anyone know that wasn't really how I look now?

As far as stealing pictures....a lot of times it boils down to one word against another. For example I will use myself and my fellow mod, Kristi (pretend we are new to a site) I could use Kristi's picture on a site. She sees it and says wait a minute...that's me. How does a site prove it without demanding ID or something? How does the site link an account to a specific person...especially if proxies or something is used? I could take her picture and use it on another site where people don't know us....either to fool people or disparage her. How do they know who is telling the truth?

There are many reasons someone may not want to show a real picture. Mine is out of protection for myself and those around me (online or in real life)

Just as some want pictures to feel protected (which I can fully respect) some don't post pictures for that same reason

*to add*

If someone is looking to meet, then I do strongly suggest getting pictures or video chat for precaution. If someone won't give them to you, then I wouldn't want to meet them. Many use this as a social site, as well, not looking to meet

Ok, I see your point...I really have no problems with a pic because I'm a guy; however, females have big problems with all the married/attached male perverts lurking in the corners of the web. (That was in response to the girl sitting 10 feet away from me...lilangel)

No need to be scared, you are aware of the dangers and know how to stay safe. Recent events have brought it to the front of our minds.

well thank you. Please understand that I DO see the other side of this. I would back other people that wish to communicate with people that have pictures. It is just 2 different ways of protecting yourself and I can respect and support them both. Some people (with pics or no pics) can do things for bad reasons. Some people (with pics or no pics) can do things for protection or good reasons. It's about the individual.

I have always encouraged for people to listen to their gut feelings while online and to do what they feel is necessary to feel protected (with in the law of course lol)

the online world is still fairly new to the laws and the laws haven't caught up with it yet.

I think we should all be afraid to post our real pics now that we have found out there are no INTERNATIONAL laws to protect them.
I really did think there were some laws covering that.
I am GLAD I am NOT in the dating game anymore. I would be reallllly scared scared Even some of the mods are scared!scared scared scared

The thing is IF there were such laws, how would they be enforced?
