Post a 100 pics of yourself...
Still won't help me know who you are OR what you're up to on here. JMHO

I noticed your contribution to the site has skyrocketed VERY recently.
Don't know why but..... Awesome! flowerforyou

I have been in and out for years. Just float around and read most of the time. Unless an issue piques my interest. I think numerous pics help alot to let people get to know who you are. For example: If I see a pic of Donald Duck, or a profile of numerous pics of the same person I think Donald Duck would be lacking something for me to formulate an impression of that person.

We do not heavily enforce this particular statement: "you should be in all photos"

Preferably, yes, you should be in all photos. The problem with that is, people like to express themselves. The main Photo, should be of you, as for the rest, be it a photo of your pets, car, home, etc. does let you say a little bit more about you, your lifestyle and interests.

Also, some people do not wish to make their photos public, for whatever reason, so we do have a private photo option, and the person may use an avatar as their main image.

The main concern for photos are as follows:

No nude/highly suggestive pics, or photos which only focus on one area of the body, as to display certain attributes. I will mention also, that headless/shirtless photos also fall into this category.

Photos which contain personal contact information, such as phone numbers or email addresses are not allowed, as well as personal identification. This is for the safety of our members.

bloody/gory images, intimidating photos, or otherwise disturbing images.

We realize you are all adults here, however, we do want to maintain a decent website.

As for forcing folks to have a photo, i do not think that will happen, no.

Thanks for the info, Mark

Perhaps not, but when someone is very adamant about NOT posting a picture, it does send up a red flag.

So, there you have it. It is up to the individual to insure their own safety on Mingle2 and probably all other places on the internet. We just have to use our own plain common sense.

You say that the main photo should be of the person. However, it is clear that is not enforced either. But, thanks for the information.

I tend to think so, too. But, I don't have to talk to those people or add them to my friend's list. And I won't. I do have to admit I was a bit lax on this before. Live and learn.

Every once in a while, there is a good reason for not posting a picture. But, that does not happen often. However, this is of course my opinion.

You can post the clearest of pics, with a Mingle sign, still doesn't prove you're not a serial killer.

Whoa! That's EXACTLY what a scammer/identity thief would say to get me to post a pic of myself!

I'm kidding of courselaugh

No, I didn't miss it. You said different things in your post. That's fine. You cleared up the picture issue. As lilangel said, it's up to us to us to ensure our own safety when it comes to this kind of thing.

Different sites work in different ways. A couple others I have checked out require main pictures to be of that person. If they aren't, those pictures are removed. Of course, they are allowed to have no picture at all if they don't want to share one, though.

I have an avitar as my main pict. but if anyone is so inclined, I have pix of my husband and myself on my profile (I amy have some of just me as well, I havent looked in a while to be sure). I can understand both sides of this. I get the wish for ananimity as well as the hope for openness and honesty.

It comes down to this. If you are not comfortable with people not putting up their profile pict, don't talk to that person. If you are okay with it, then do. If you are THAT uncomfortable with people who have no photos online, avoid online. frown
A profile pict will not ensure that a person is who they say they are any more than not having one. I have met people in person, known them for years and they turned out to be something other than what they portrayed themselves to be. I dated a guy for years before he became abusive and tried to kill me. knowing him, seeing him, having pictures of him didn't make him any more "real" than anything else did.

It is harder to hide with a clear picture. There are ways you can actually identify that pic. It is also illegal to use other people's pics claiming it to be you and you can be prosecuted for this. The more different clear pics to me the better to assure safety. So, I do feel that not having to put up a pic does make it easier for someone to hide. Just my opinion.

What if all at once, everyone where to put up an inanimate pic. What kind of site would that be? I wonder if the people with no pics would even want to visit there?

There are bad people everywhere. Not just online. But, we can at least take a few precautions online. Everyone has different preferences. Some will be fine with talking to/becoming friends with/meeting those without pictures. Others won't be.

I don't necessarily have an issue with those who don't post pictures. However, I cannot take them seriously. A picture may not change that, though I will not consider meeting someone who is adamant about not having pictures.

If "Lex" had clear pictures up, it would have been clear that he had been lying about his age. When people use pictures like he did, it's quite easy to hide who you are.

If I am going to meet someone, I expect to be able to pick them out in a crowd. If I feel their pictures (yes, multiple. only one picture is a bit weird) will not allow for that to happen, they are not clear enough.

I think it is cool too. I have a cartoon pic of me I put up from time to time. And, like you I have other pics.

and what difference would him lying about his age have made in the grand sceme of things?
I don't make it a point to run every person I chat with here through facial recognition software and a criminal background check. A clear picture of him would not have prevented him from being here. As a matter of fact, once upon a time... when I first started here back in '07' he DID have a picture with the hat but without the sunglasses up, holding a JSH sign. It was in relation to a thread that was going at the time. the picture didn't stay up long, but it was there.

In reality, a clear picture won't do you any more good than a cartoon to find out a person's trueness.

This has been an ongoing debate here for as long as I can remember..
"we want a clear face picture"
"Why don't you post a full body picture?"
"Is your picture current?"
"why does everyone wear a hat in their pictures?"
