I turn my phone off ,
I would expect the same or at least on Vibrate.
At times we need to know things. Then there is time for down time from the rest of the world. flowerforyou
I go with this answer

I personally turn off my phone or put it on silent in front of the person on a date. This usually has them do the same.

If someone is that disrespectful, self important, and rude to think that the world will end if they dont answer a "how are you?' text or call is a little pathetic to me.

Unless there is work, or a sick family member to deal with, turn the stupid phone off.

Do you think it's acceptable to answer your phone while out on a date? What about texting? Do you text or answer calls while on dates?

I think its damn rude. I went out on a date with a guy that was conducting business on his cell phone. Needless to say; it was the last date.

Depends on the circumstances. I don't usually have mine on when I'm out with others.

it's one of those signs... if she is more interested in her cell phone than me, then i don't have to ask her out again. if she wanted to talk with me, then she will, if not, then move on to the next one....

There is one in every crowd. It was cheaper. I personally don't like the idea of being that easy to get a hold of.........smokin

I always have my phone with me but rarely have it on. I use it for emergencies only.

I'd only reply to texts or answer calls while on a date, if it was an emergency. I don't want my date thinking i'm being ignorant. I guess i was just brought up to be curteous. My family are like that.

I have to agree with that. Not sure if it's a showing off thing with some, but not like i care if the guy is popular or not. A big ego is a big ego. A total turn off for me. He could boast all he liked, but that may just come across as cocky, and too much care about his pride.

If the guy is incredibly boring, why are you out with him to begin with?

I always have my phone with me and it's always on.. However, I have two daughters and a granddaughter that live in 3 different states and if the phone rings I will check to see who is calling and if its an emergency..If emergency, I will say so and excuse myself for a minute to call back... I think is very rude to talk on the phone in a restaurant and recently was in a doctors waiting room where some guy was talking business soooo loud, everyone could hear.. He had a vibrator thing that tells when they are ready for him and he could have stepped outside in the lobby to talk..grumble

My phone has an "Emergency escape option"...I program it to call me roughly an hour into the date with an emergency of my choosing. If the date is going good, I ignore the call. If the date is sucking, I take the call and then got a semi-reasonable reason to split.

you are all missing the point here! These days couples use their smartphones to communicate with each other. Yes, on a date! :)
