why do you think some fathers distance themselves from their pregnant partner or the child after it's born?

because thats when the hard work starts and they lack strength and maturity. My ex left when the youngest was a year old and showed back up when she turned 15 to give her a Mountain Dew and wish her a happy 12th....she handed it back to him and walked away....none of the five speak to him.....and btw...After 25 years, I finally received 2 support checks for the very first time...each was for $3.00....and yes, the decimals are in the correct location

Sometimes, I think it’s that the fantasy of having a child doesn’t always match up with the reality of having a child – a little too much grown up responsibility that immature guys can’t/aren't equipped to deal with.

There were studies done and the biggest forewarning of a kid going to jail, etc., was lack of a father figure involvement. I think they were 3x more likely to have societal, behavioral and criminal activities. I'd have to look it back up and be for sure, but 3x sounds right, and I don't feel like looking it up tonight!! For all that info the ladies owe me a smooch!

There were studies done and the biggest forewarning of a kid going to jail, etc., was lack of a father figure involvement. I think they were 3x more likely to have societal, behavioral and criminal activities. I'd have to look it back up and be for sure, but 3x sounds right, and I don't feel like looking it up tonight!! For all that info the ladies owe me a smooch! lol well, I already kind of new that,, thats why I Said I would NEVER keep a child from their father unless that parent was abusive to the child personally,,,

Mine was verbally, physically and mentally abusive. That's what made me swear when I was a kid I'd never treat anyone like that, and I made it out. I am distanced from my father (he died) and mother (she's 82) cuz I remember my youth and resent it.

Im sorry to hear it, but even that experience with your father taught you valuable lessons so it wasnt really a loss

Im sorry to hear it, but even that experience with your father taught you valuable lessons so it wasnt really a loss It taught me how not to be a man, the Boy Scouts and Army taught me and trained me to be a man. So I'm alright to me. Comfortable in my skin.
