Topic: drag this war out! | |

Hey, Barbiesbigsister -
What an unusual "God" you have - that he likes one country more than another - and favours the military! You must feel very special. How many Iraqis do you suppose are greatful for our "help" now that there's thousands of tons of "depleted" uranium contaminating the country with radiation for the next four BILLION years? - 'Ever see a baby mutated by radiation? Do you even care that the majority of the war's victims are women and children, not nasty "evildoers"? How can you fall for such a transparent protection racket? |
cbx... have YOU ever seen a baby mutated from radiation? lets stay real world instead of hollywood here. Dont make me give you a lesson on what depeted uranium is.... lol

thousands of tons????????

hey adj4u ....I agreed with you...
this war was illegal from the get go...it happened for only 2 reasons...money & oil.... |
cbx...agree with you totally....DU is a fact...as is the mass murder of innocent people...
I have never understood americas ability to turn a blind eye to this massacre....shame on us... |

Just a question, no sarcasm, if the USA is so bad, what country do you want to be in? I believe that Congress approved what happened, clinton spoke of WMD's, what depleted uranium are you speaking of. I don't totally agree with what has happened, but I stand behind this country; RIGHT or WRONG. Think we are more right than wrong. Talk to the troops going & coming. All I have spoken to, support their mission. Have a son about to go, so I have been doing my home work as far as what the people serving there think. They tell the real story. The people want us, they have a better life than before.

the military uses depleted uranium as a coating on their munitions old sage. alot of the the stuff that can't be used is just lying around. can't tell you from personal experience but they say parts of iraq look like giant military salvage yards with extremely high levels of contamination.
First question: Who is "they" that say this.
My son is a medic, been on a sub & in charge of rad badges. Leaves sundat for Iraq & he has not been warned of any radiation problems. |
i used "they" because i have seen the footage on news reports and on a documentary on discovery about an iraqi man who was a member of the US military who went back to iraq to film a documentary about the positive aspects of the united states involvement in the war. they also filmed some not so pleasant footage and opinions to get a fair and balanced piece.

do a search on depleted uranium coatings for munitions and you'll get the results. it's not new news.

Just talked to my son. If you pick the spent rounds up, for your collection, or are crawling in the vechiles hit by them you can create you own problem. Troops are educated in this & if something happens, it is because YOU did something you were told NOT TO DO. Right from a radiation health person.
So think what ever you saw or heard might have been slanted or easily misunderstood. |
don't think so but to each their own. i'm not trying to put a bias slant on it. you asked "what depleted uranium are you speaking of" so i told you. the problem with it is that they are sitting around and kids are playing in the junk. adults are also taking sections for scrap. you are right about the part about making your own problem if you crawl around on it or handle it but the comment was made that it was there which it is so there shouldn't be anything to argue about.
i wasn't arguing any position on the war oldsage, just telling you what he was talking about.

Sorry, didn't mean to make it seem like an argument, not my intent at all. I am taking everything going on over there with great concern, as son will be there for 8 months. Being a radiation health person, I figured he would know the facts. He has no concern, if civilians are picking them up, totally agree it can be a health hazard to them. I am sure, this place becomes a safe place to be, scrap steel will be a quick cash thing, just like the end of WW II. We will be buying it all back.

alot of people are concerned and rightfully so. hope your son stays safe.

Thanks

depleted uranium isnt a coating, they make penetrator rods out of it... and its called depleted because most all the radiation is gone. This whols business about thee depleted uranium goes back to the early 80s when it was first used. ( It is also used for armor plating among other things)
the fact is that us Americans go running for the hills when they hear anything radioactive. This is mostly because we havent been educated on the subject, except for Hollywierds version. The truth isthat Depleted Uranium is about as radioactive as a coleman lantern mantle or a granite countertop. All things contain reaioactivity, including me and you. it takes a massive dose to do real harm, like 200 rems or more. we are talking about a few thousanths of a Rem, or barely over background levels. Yes were bathed in radioactivity all the time. Yes its a microscopicly small amount. just like depleted uranium. |

im not saying i would use DU shells to build a fireplace with in my house but the danger has been totally egzaggerated
egzagerated? exaggerated? |

f*ck bush, he shouldn't be killing our best and brightest out there over a hunch. i'd like to see him impeached so the war ends sooner rather than later. clinton got impeached for lying about sleeping with an intern, and bush might walk away? he better not, but none of the politicians have the balls to do anything about it besides kucinich.
Just to keep the facts straight, Clinton was impeached for lying UNDER OATH. Not for sleeping with an intern.
