Topic: Is Sugardaddying Prostitution? | |
---|---|
It’s the classic Tinseltown tale – a starry-eyed young woman heads to Hollywood with dreams of being the next Angelina Jolie or Britney Spears, only to be faced with the industry’s brutal truth that only a lucky few make it. So what happens for those whose hopes are dashed, or for those who are still holding out for that big break? Some go back to Iowa. Some get normal jobs and continue to work toward their dreams. Others go for the easy money and become escorts or prostitutes. Others, however, enter that gray area and become a "kept woman," turning to sugar daddies to give them the “Pretty Woman” lifestyle, complete with compensation in designer dresses, expensive dinners and nights in fancy hotel suites. All in return for sex. California-based District Attorney Robin Sax says it is commonplace in Hollywood for young women to be compensated by wealthy older guys with spa treatments, exotic vacations, clothes, jewelry, and even expensive cars. “Girls are just another thing for Hollywood folks to entertain with – champagne, a meal and a girl,” Sax said. “The really rich and successful Hollywood men can basically get anything they want.” So how does a woman score a sugar daddy in Hollywood? “They hang out and make their propositions in five-star hotel bars, restaurants, prominent clubs or through social networking,” Beverly Hills-based chemical addiction specialist Marty Brenner said. And they're increasingly looking online. Sugardaddy.com is marketed as an online dating site boasting over two million members that connects “sugar daddies” with “sugar babies” or “sugar mommas.” The site has a disclaimer that prohibits members from offering money in exchange for sex, saying any such violations will result in the cancellation of membership and banning from the site. That's a very important distinction, says Noel Biderman, CEO of Avid Life Media who runs a similar Sugar Daddy dating site called EstablishedMen.com. “Prostitution is about sex for money … and women who rely on these interactions to support themselves – this is their profession,” Biderman said. “Sugar daddy relationships are real women who are interested in being with men who are willing to spend their disposable income on the lifestyle – clothes, jewelry, trips, dining – that match up with their desires." Others disagree, saying sugar mommas are just prostitutes by another name. “The sugar daddy is the client, and prostitution is alive and well, and burning up the Internet,” convicted former madam and author of the tell-all “Secrets of a Hollywood Super Madam” Jody “Babydol” Gibson told Pop Tarts. So who's right? “The law is clear in that engaging in sexual intercourse for money or other considerations is prostitution, but the difference in how it is enforced is a gray area,” Sax said. “Something like loitering in a seedy area and having someone pick you up is much easier to police.” Sax said getting gifts is really no different than getting cold hard cash, but getting arrested for it is unlikely. “It’s not likely anyone would get convicted over this,” she added. “I don’t think anyone is all that outraged over it, and jurors would most likely be annoyed about having to go to court over someone buying someone a handbag for sex.” Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2011/06/23/is-sugar-daddying-hollywoods-legal-form-prostitution/#ixzz1Q9toRYIe In my opinion it is definately prostitution, but I agree it would be hard as hell to prosecute and there are other cut and dry crimes we should be going after instead of filling the dockets with things like this. In one way, shape or form the man ALWAYS pays for sex. It could be in the form of dinner, a movie, a ring whatever, the man is still forking out money to get into the "Honeypot" which would make women in general "Prostitutes" and guys in general "Johns" |

i've owned sailboats, airplanes and been married twice and have concluded that in order to maintain some financial stability in my retirement years i'll adhere strenuously to this tactic.

Personally, I have always thought of the sugar-daddy/sugar-baby thing as legalized prostitution. Ideally, those with the money wouldn't stoop to the level of buying sex or companionship. However, there is not much I can do about it except to make sure it doesn't happen to me.
So, if that is what two people want to do, then so be it. Not my decision to make. |

I never understood why GIVING it away is ok but being paid for it is a crime. Just another opinion though,,lol I kind of agree. Why is it illegal of some woman wants to sell her body? I mean people can sell plasma or blood or eggs, semen. But you can't sell sex. Yet if you want to sleep with every person in town for free thats no problem. |

It's not just women, but men too. Just so happens that it is more prevalent with women (mostly because of larger demand).
However, there are a lot a problems which evolve with being in such a situation. Abuse - physical, emotional, and verbal - is one of them. It's like working for a boss who is an a-hole, but as long as the check is good, people will put up with what he dishes out. And then there is the money situation, like when Anna Nicole Smith's aging husband passed away, or when the trophy wife wants a divorce. If I wanted to run down the whole list, I could ask a friend of mine who just moved to Texas. She's a former prostitute/call-girl who later became a police officer. I'm sure she has a few stories to tell about her wealthier clients. And for the record, I was not one of customers. I met her through a role playing game, and now we sometimes chat on Yahoo. |

Umm prositution is only legal here in Nevada and only in a couple counties. Depending on the situation it can be considered a VERY serious felony. |

Because of the whole disease thing and that it bring in other crime. It really does. Hell, in the couple counties that is legal here in, it is HEAVILY regulated. Condoms have to be work even on oral, the girls have to be checked (by an actual Medical Doctor) and tested weekly, most brothels also have a strict no drug policy and mandatory regular testing policy. They also inspect and and clean the parts of their partner before they get to business. They have to be licensed with the county and the state. It's a big process. Street walkers don't do any of that. They are just doing it to buy money for drugs. Most have diseases and dont use condoms. They also commit other crimes and make the crime rate in their areas drasticaly increase. The drug rate in prostitution areas sky rocket as does the theft rate. Not to mention a lot of prostitues mug or rob their johns. Tnen there is the whole pimp issue and underage girls forced into prostitution as well as other women of aged forced into it. I can go on and on about why it should be illegal. |

Most women are gold diggers. It sucks. There is no other reason someone who is almost 90 like Hugh Hefner is constantly with 18 year olds(Which I think is sick BTW). If he was broke, they would have nothing to do with him. Is your friend single? |

disease free woman, 2) it is romantic and loving and 3) the price is right. Ladeez, Make me an offer! |
