Well here it is another week
and no job on the horizonohwell
Months of phone calling , online applictions, resume faxing
and dropping in on potential employers has still
lead to nothing....

I know I'm not alone-
Any others out there having the same problem?

Been there. Done that. When I was last unemployed, I joined a social website called Mingle2.

Good luck to everyone who's seaching for employment with reasonable wages.

What is the definition of "reasonable wages"?
Depending on where one residence is may dictate the wording of reasonable wages., there are other factors that may dictate these wages as well such as type of job and what position one may enter in that job., will this job be full-time or part-time, health benefits and days or nights of working hours.

huh

So, the expression "reasonable wages" has no real meaning.

If you have experience in a particular area, then neither walmart or mcDs will hire you because they expect you to leave when your field is hiring again.

I know this from experience. I applied everywhere and for 2 months nothing. I think myself extremely lucky because I have friends who did not get my position.

The fact that you were not contacted by a particular business does not in itself prove that the business discriminated against you because of your previous line of work. Considering how high the unemployment rate is (in the USA at least), you could simply be in a long line of job applicants, with numerous applicants being ahead of you.

I just found out that my dept can fund me for the summer...woohoo, been worried about that!

Animal science dept. layed off most of their staff during administrative professionals week and some depts are only funding grad students for fall & spring, money is scarce in every dept!

I need to graduate ASAP!

Did you seek a job after earning a Bachelor degree, or did you become a grad student immediately afterwards?

You should try it at my age....darn near impossible! Oh I could probably get a job as a servant somewhere, and move to God knows where...and be at the mercy of another spoiled person's whims...I'm getting way to old for that kind of thing.
I'm seriously gonna try working from home, doing my own thing..and that is scary as the devil too!

Yeah age is a BIG problem!!!
The high school and college kids will scoop up a few of the jobs this summer and it will be damn near impossible to find ANYTHING!!!!

I just applied to the hospital I worked at several years ago
-I'm hoping because I'm a former employee ( and a good one!) that will
be a plus in my favor...happy

Well, Alaska is an expesnsive place to live.

I only have a $200 a month car payment otherwise no loans at all.
With rent so high here along with everything else, I need $3,000 a month take home just to live. Utilities, food, gas for the car etc. That wouldn't leave me anything to spend for myself. That is about $52,000 a year after taxes and health insurance are taken out. That is only to support myself. I don't know how much I would need if I had a whole family to support

Fortunately, i am at a level in my career where i can make that much. What happened to the days where one person could work to support their family and still have money to be able to enjoy their time off?

No, that isn't right. In 2007 I did interview with both of them. McDonalds said I was over qualified and would leave when I found something better. Walmart said they don't want people that will use them as a stepping stone. They want dedicated life long employees. I think both those responses are bizarre because they both have high turn over.

I had some money saved up & went into work one day to find the bussiness would be closing. Had 4 days notice. I lived off my savings for awhile & then finally signed up for unemployment & foodstamps. Got 2 unemployment checks & 1 month foodstamps & found another job. Then I got 2 jobs at once & started both the same day (morning & evening shifts) quiting the other job that was only temp til I could find something better. Between February 2010-July 2010 was pretty hairy. It's amazing how far you can stretch a budget on homemade pancakes & grilled cheese sandwiches!!!

Misconception. They can't find a job either.

Look:

82% of them living with their parents.

Unemployment under the age of 30 is the highest of all age groups , it's over 17%.

Just wondering,

When you have dozens of resumes out and haven't heard anything, how often do you check to make sure your phone and email are correct on your resume?

2 places that are always hiring:

McDonald's and Walmart

Work 'em till you find something better, or... sit on yer *** waiting for that perfect job and watch your unemployment run out.

Food industry and retailers are the #1 hiring places out there right now. Everyone needs to eat and everyone needs toilet paper for cheap.

Humm that is not always true.... when I was unemployed for 2 years I did apply at Walmart and every restaurant around my area as well as Home Depot and Lowes............No one was hiring or there was at least 30 others standing in line as well. I assure you most of the time the older you get those places will take the younger ones.....

Yeah I did finally get a job at Olive Garden and I have at least 20 years experience as a Bartender & waitress under my belt..But I assure you it was not easy even finding someone hiring even for that job.

Could not find a office job at all and have done that for 12 years... And I was willing to take half the pay I was getting if needed.

So at times it has nothing to do with sitting waiting for the perfect job.... it just has to do with trying to get hired due to the economy and 100 others looking for the same job.

I got lucky after 3 months waiting tables I finally got another office job which I just started last week, even if it is $7.00 less then my last office job... Therefore I even keep the waitress job 2 days a week....

One never knows how long they will have their jobs. I had my last one for 12 years and due to the economy a company that had been in business for over 25 years went from 25 people to only 2 guys and the owner left working....sad2

I agree-flowerforyou however what I meant was most summer or temp jobs
are usually for younger people- folks my age are usually not first pick for this type of employment.
