To me smartness is,
Knowing when I you can fix something and fixing it,
knowing you cant do anything about it and letting it go.
Being able to be thankful for eveything you have and not waisting your time on wishes.
Getting up everyday and being happy from the inside out..
To me that is being smart

Smart reply.
Sometimes some work seems to be next to impossible but once we start we get the solution. smokin

happy I dont believe in giving up, but nor will I ever bash my head against a wall trying to find a solutionfrustrated
If there is a way it will eventually show itself, but until thendrinker I have a life to livehappy

Smartness can manifest in many forms.

Some people are great talkers, and could sell a pair of shoes to a man with no legs, but ask them to write and they cannot spell to save their life.

Some autistic people can remember everything they have ever read, but cannot make themselves a sandwich.

Some people are genius comedy writers, but can barely tell a joke that'll make you laugh.

Maybe you have to be a good all rounder to truly be smart?

I agree, that is another way in which smartness can manifest itself.

I read someplace that a difference of just 15 IQ points makes it difficult for two people to communicate. That's why the smartest people may seem to have poor social skills. Among their own, they do just fine. But, when communicating with with people of average intelligence, they may seem awkward.

So, I'm not so sure being smart is any kind of advantage unless you want to trick those with less brain power. Having balls is more important than having brains.

That's lucky. Coz I got two balls but only one brain.

I am smart enough to argue with my boss, rvolt against injustice and move alone without any support from others.
Some call me fool.
Some call me intelligent.
Even some call me smart.
We certify others as per our own understanding.
What is your understanding of smartness? smokin
I argue with the boss all the time.

Oh wait I am the Boss!!!!

Limitations are sometimes excellent to have, they come in handy.

For instance, without the applicable statutes of limitations, I would not be here today to tell you this.

I think it won't be wrong if I modify it a little bit like this:
smart = an ability to grow and adapt with the situation/environment without compromising our inner value. smokin

My point was that sometimes smart people spend too much time calculating the risks while the people with balls just go for it. It's often better to do the wrong thing than do nothing. By doing the wrong thing you at least learn.

Still disagree.

Jumping in with both feet and screwing it up more often than not takes more time to fix than if you had a plan that would work before starting. That is assuming what got screwed up can be fixed. Sometimes you just will need to toss it.

Generally what is learned by these mistakes is to: stop and think before jumping...

I learned that from a fire marshal friend. So, would you prefer the fire fighters talk about how to best put out your house or just start shooting water at it even if that may not be the best thing to do?

I've had so much trouble from being smarter than a boss. He wants something done a certain way and I explain why my way is better and he agrees that my way is better. But, then his ego is bruised and he's got it in for me.

I have lost more than one job by being too smart.

Well, first, the firefighters already know how to put out a fire and generally, yes they do talk about how they are going to attack it before going in. Usually a 60 second conversation. Should they skip that and have them all doing their own thing or have a coordinated effort to put it out???

As far as being smarter than you boss, listen to him, agree with him and when he is gone you ignore him and do it your way anyway. All he wants are the results. You can think your boss is an idiot, just don't call him one.

No, when fighting a fire there is one guy in charge, giving everyone else orders. Unless it's a huge forest that's on fire like we had here in Tx. a few weeks ago. Most of the time he knows what to do because of the type of fire it is. But, he still has to make a split second decision and modify it later if he's wrong.

About the boss, that only works if you aren't working next to your boss all the time. Because of the kind of work I've done, I ran into this situation often. I'd been in the field for 16 years and my boss maybe 3 or 4. I simply knew more about doing a good job quickly and efficiently than any of them did. When I was the boss (owned the shop) and I was lucky enough to hire someone that knew more than me, I'd watch and learn. But, being smarter than the boss has gotten me fired more than once.

I don't understand what you are arguing about. Right, they talk to the guy in charge. He gives them directions because he has thought of the best way to fight the fire. Of course he has to adjust the plan based on what is happening. I don't see how this proves your point. He is going to be continually evaluating what is happening and making adjustments based on his knowledge and experience. He isn't letting his crew just do whatever they want. He has a plan that his crew will carry out.

I will leave the boss thing alone. I would need more information than you will want to share here.
