I have a thing for manly men, but when I tell someone I don't like macho men they think it's contradictory.

So I came up of the differences I've noticed between a masculine (manly) man and a macho man.

Here they are:
a manly man has this great instinct to protect.
Manly man gets respect without demanding it unlike a macho man.
A manly man likes to satisfy whereas a macho man wants to be satisfied.
A manly man likes to be in control whereas the macho man just likes to overpower.
A manly man quietly takes control because it is something that comes naturally to them, whereas the macho man usually has to demand the power or control.
A manly man never tries to prove his masculinity in front of people whereas the macho men can't find a better time to show how macho he can be then when his friends are over.
A manly man wants to be respected but a macho man would like to be feared.

There are plenty others and I'm sure you guys and gals have some of your own.
Guys, do you consider yourself manly or macho... why???

Girls, tell me what you think, are manly men and a macho men the same to you... What are the differences you've noticed yourself.

A manly man can express his feelings without worrying,
A macho man is to macho to show he has feelings.

A manly man doesn't mind having a gay friend because he is secure of his sexuality, whereas a macho man would not come anywhere near gays.

This thread reminds me of all the veterans who have returned from all our foreign wars who only want a job and a family. They usually ignore the "macho men" wherever they appear because they have nothing to prove.

So, in a fight between a manly man and a macho man, who wins?

I think the manly man because he knows it is a waste of time and energy to fight the macho man and just walks the hell away.

A 'macho' man always has to be on his game.
A 'manly' man, simply..is.

Sigh :-)

A manly man can destroy your credit rating, a macho man can beat you to a pulp with a baseball bat. (I know. I learned the hard way.)

A manly man can make women want him on the power of his butler's accent, and a macho man will need to club a woman and drag her home to his cave by the hair.

A manly man is gay, plays the piano or can scream "oh, my GOD!" like no other, and a macho man has sessions with other men but he says that's not gay, shuddup.

A manly man can make women swoon by cracking a joke or two (like Krupa or Lex) whereas a macho man can't do that, he has to resort to bibler-thumplers-bashing to keep himself entertained.

A manly man will look at a woman and she will melt, a macho man will look at a woman and think of bbq sauce.

A manly man will provide and conquer, the macho man will devide and kanker.

A manly man will vict and shine, a macho man will eat much sheiss.

A manly man is an epicure with a pedicure, a macho man is a diabetic doing a piourette.

A manly man will wash daily, a macho man will smell muscly.

erm... a manly man makes poetry smell like rose-wine, the macho man makes bee-hives in his spare time.

A manly man will dream of a rose left on his piano by his lady; and a macho man, of tulips on his organ.

U see why I don't read effffing books? I would be all over the landscape, my head would be, if I did. Not "after the fall" but "after the autonomous explosion."

A manly man will know how to satisfy a woman in bed.

A macho man doesn't have a clue... but he will brag that he never pays for sex.
