depends on the topic. Some people just write to read their own writing.

If it interest me, yes. If not. no.

But I always read the post under Joke and funny stories even how long they are. It amuses me.

If the content is important to the discussion, then yes. There are a number of reasons that a post can become verbose. One is that people often have trouble staying focused on the central point that they intended to address.

lately i have seen posts on here get longer and longer.

does anyone read long posts all the way through? i tend to skim them till my eyes glaze over.

i think if you want someone to read your post, keep it short and to the point.

Depends on what it's about and how well it's written. If it's one huge paragraph, probably not.

Long posts are like long rods; I don't know why girls don't like those. They seem to be all the rage, have been since day 1.

Long profiles are like long faces: If good, more to enjoy, worship and kiss, if bad, get me out of here already.

Long hair, on the other hand, is good to look at, but bad to put in your soup. (How many times you bent over soup, and the tips of your hair getting in, Chicago?)

Long stories I like short, I don't read novels, other than those of Terry Pratchett. I like short stories of the kind that appear in the New Yorker, the New York Times, The Atlantic, the Saturday Evening Post, Harpers', etc.

Please allow me to assure you: everybody read your post.

I don't suppose it will come as news to you, but a well-built, busty blonde will get her every post read letter-by-letter and all bullsy-ballsy guys will respond to that.

They say, even research supports it, that females are more verbally oriented thinkers and males, more spacially oriented. I say that's bullocks. I say that that illusion is created by all good looking women being listened to by everyone, so they keep on talking, for the sheer joy of being the centre of attention. (I don't blame them, I enjoy being there too. It's not a "sin" in and by itself.)

So women talk because they have positive reinforcement.

Look at the guys: One line responses. Two line responses. If there are more than five lines, the guys who write them get to blow up in a trollic rage, and leave the forums soon -- they are not emotionally stable.

There are two forums whose posts are clear exceptions from what I feel rules the length of posts. The two excepted forums are the Religion and the Science/Philosophy forums. There everyone lets their tongue loose.

I like reading the poetry and jokes thread, I find them entertaining, if I find other threads that are interesting I will read them, as long as they aren't overly long, depends on the subject.

It's not how long the post is, it's how long it takes for people to read it. (Remember: Time flies when you're having fun.)

mostly NO, but if someone writes well and has a point worth listening to then I surely will read every word! Heck I probably read at least half of Lex's profile once-LOL:)

Did it give you a headache? They won't let me make it longer....!

No...you actually have interesting things to say! You are an inspiration my friend...when I start my thesis soon I know I will get writer's block & wonder...what would Lex say about this? LOL

He has a 1500 page dating profile & here I am unable to finish a few hundred pages about what I've done to get my degree! Hoping this will light the fire back up if that occurs...or I could always start a new thread called...what would Lex do?

Honestly, sometimes when I get stuck, I just start writing some little stream-of-consciousness bit, and sooner or later it turns into something more solid.

The other thing I've found -- and this, after 5 books (and #6 is 90% done) -- there are days when I can't write ANYTHING that isn't absolute drivel. Those days, I know it's best to go find something else to do for the next day or two.

It depends whether or not I am interested in the topic.

For the most part, I tend to just skim the long ones.

If she's hot and wants me, I'll pretend to be listening long enough to score.

thanks for the advice Lex! Some days I can't get anything done whether it's writing, lab work, or just reading...my mind is just useless every now & then for a day or two. Once I spent a whole 8 hr day working on a 250 word abstract. The word limit made it more difficult to me though.

I have about 40 or so pages written already, but haven't officially organized it into my dissertation...soon, very soon.

One of the purposes of having forums on a dating site is so that people can get to learn something about each other.

In a written medium, such as this, what a person writes is often the only way you can get any insight into that person.

It's true that there aren't many who have literary skills AND something to say. But when you find one of those, even a very long post can be well worth reading....
