I have came to the conclusion that I am no longer interested in the major I chose three years ago. indifferent

I have no idea what I want to do anymore. ohwell

How did you decide what you wanted to do in life? What helped you make up your mind and stick to it? what

I tend to always change my mind about things, and it's difficult to see myself doing just one thing for the rest of my life. slaphead

good one .

I like to learn things that I am afraid of or know little about.

So years ago I went to school for residential and Commercial Electricity.

I am no longer afraid of electricity but have a healthy respect for its

principals.

As of lately (the last 10 years) I have gone heal long into computer science.

I decided to find out how they work and why.

I am now a tech. and enjoy unlocking digital mysteries .

My advice , go after what intimidates you and master it .

In my own opinion college is not a good idea straight out of high school. You don't honestly know yourself yet. The best job you've had so far is probably at a local food joint or grocery store. Plus any job that is worth having will train you the way they want you to be trained. To me college is a waste of $100,000+.

I enlisted right out of high school into the Air Force. I wasn't ready for college at the time and thought my best bet for me was the armed forces. I took general college courses while in the Air Force and eventually went to school to be a micro-computer specialist. I did not use my training for my career path, I own and operate my own business as a paint contractor and love it. Be happy whatever you decide to do.

Hmmm, that's a good way of looking at it.

Spiders intimidate and scare the **** out of me lol Maybe I should take an interest in arachnids.

I was going into computer science as well. I find the surface interesting, but I lose interest in anything deeper. It's just not for me =/

I'm not straight out of high school, but it's somewhat true that I don't completely know myself well to pin point what I honestly "love" to do. I've actually had a good share of jobs which I've learned useful skills from, but that's the reason why I want to go to college, because I see those jobs as dead ends. All jobs will train you the way they want, but it doesn't make them worth having.

Thats all a matter of perspective. If it's the job you want then the training will be training you want. I wanted to work on trucks so I applied at a local shop. They send me down to school about 4 or 5 times a year for a week all expenses paid plus I get paid 40 hours for that week. Paid to drive down there. It's what I love to do and to be honest I make more a year than people I went to high school with that have degree's.

I was married 6 months after high school and had 4 children in 5 yrs.. I never went to college but when my youngest child started school I got a job as a pharmacy tech.. I loved it and then moved on to office manager at a dental office.. I did everything there, including learning how to chairside.. After my divorce, I moved to Arizona, couldn't find a dental job but talked my way into a job in a big drs (8 drs) office..(they tried to tell me I was over qualified, sure!)..I got lots of on the job training for free, watched procedures at the hospital(3 drs were cardioligist)and prepped patients for procedures. Also worked in the lab some..The only schooling I've paid for was a phlebotomy class I took after moving back to Ohio.
I loved working in the medical field, met great people and have nice memories...Although I'm very smart, I learn faster by doing it than reading it... Do what makes you happy flowerforyou

Look around and see what interests you. See if any of the classes you have already taken will assist in this new venture. And relax, It happens to alot of people, I know people in their mid 40's that still don;t know what they wanna be when they grow up.
Good Luck!!

Here is the thing.
If you do not select what you want to do
in life, it will select something for you,
usually based on necessity.

take extra courses in fields you think you may be interested in! Find out if that is something you could really live with doing day in & day out! I had no clue when I started college and changes majors nearly every semester it seemed for a while (general studies->biology->forensic chemistry->pre-vet medicine). Never ever imagined I'd end up a geneticist studying immunology!!!

Genetics was the toughest course for the biology degree and immunology was pretty much my bane when it came to electives! I applied to several graduate programs including vet pathobilogy/microbiology here at A&M. Was not accepted into that program because they did not have much funding, but was advised while interviewing to apply for genetics and was accepted! Same requirements and coursework for either degree and same opportunity to study animal diseases! Ended up in the lab of the very professor that denied my application for vet path. LOL

Now I am well studied in immunology and love it...the only system in our body that defys the normal laws of genetics (i always did like breaking the rules)!

I've changed my mind and career path several times...nothing wrong with that

started as computer science major back in 1980's (COBOL and FORTRAN and Punchcards)ha showing my age now
went back to school to become a teacher
ended up with a BS Chemical Engineering instead
back to school for Biotechnology
five years in Physiology and Pharmacology lab
back to school program molecular and cellular biology hated bench work
switch to BioInformatics
currently working on my PhD in Bioinformatics

Its a long road to where you end up but the important thing is to get started and keep an open mind along the way

There is nothing wrong with exploring a few different options and don't think you will only do one type of work with a Bachelors degree...with a degree any degree opportunities open up that would not have before.

Good luck!

So many things to do, so little time to do them. Don't waste your life in limbo. Find your passion, follow your heart, do what you love.

I'm an artist. Its a hard way to make a living sometimes, but it is the one thing I keep coming back to and I never get bored of.

Other things I would like to do have done if I had the time:

Play the guitar or piano.
Figure skater.
Learn Chinese or be an interpretor.
Have a black belt in karate.
Be a top selling author.

So many things to do.
and now I'm 62
Not much time left, but I've still got big plans. bigsmile

What you want to do is get all your core requirements out of the way. Because it easy to change one's mind. I thought I liked Psychology and did like Psychology 101. I still like Popular Psychology but Clinical Psychology wasn't something I liked. But Child Psychology wasn't good for me at that time. I liked English 101 and Creative Writing but Business Writing wasn't my cup of tea. I would suggest finding something you really love and minor in it. Thats right minor in it because then you might not grow to hate it. I really loved computers and got two Associates degrees out of it but find myself enjoying it more as a hobby. I can remember when in Kindergarten when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up and I told the teacher that I wanted to be a hermit. Because basically I didn't like people. I should have majored in Hermitology but I don't think there is a course in learning how to be a hermit. But then I might be wrong. And again if it is your nature you don't have to be taught how to be antisocial. It is an inherited or maybe an abnormal gene, perhaps. Even at childhood it seems that society wants you to figure out what you want to be. Who needs the stress? You could do what I did and go out and try to find yourself. Come to find out I was just here. You will probably change your mind as many times as you wake up. Just be glad we don't live in the time of Charlemagne and have to do what our parents did before us. There is a whole big old world just waiting for you to make up your mind in. You shouldn't just have to settle. But some people just seem to know what they want to do and go after it. The world is your oyster. I just love being a CNA.

I knew pretty early that I would have to be involved in something creative if I wanted any possibility of feeling I had actually accomplished anything.

And I didn't know exactly what that was going to be, I just knew it had to be something creative. I spent a long time in music, but eventually discovered that I wasn't really going to be able to do what I wanted to do if it was necessary to collaborate with other people.

So, writing was a sort of natural next step. Create without any need to collaborate. Works for me.

I know I changed my mind a lot. I bounced around a bit before I could get going. The military had a hand in my decision making process. I used to be ashamed to admit it, but now I find it is ok.

I just sort of settled into the career I have now. I combines all of the things that I love to do: drive, travel, meet new people and work hard. Of course, honesty and integrity go a long way. Good Luck!!!waving waving

It's normal to change your mind about what you want to do. I think I changed majors 3 times before deciding what I wanted it to be.

I have always been intrigued by numbers so the hard part for me was choosing which of just 2 jobs would keep me interested. I'm pretty sure I lucked out and picked the right one.

So I would say, Think back to when you were just a kid. What made you the happiest then? That's what you should do.
