Forgiveness means giving up all hope of a better past.

what do you think this means??
Why must we forgive?
The best reason to forgive is because Jesus commanded us to forgive. We learn from Scripture, if we don't forgive, neither will we be forgiven:Matthew 6:14-16
For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. ...... i always forgive myself if someone does wrong i even forgot what some did it takes time to forget as your memory remembers things but i always say no 1 is perfect and give them chances again , ok look at life in General people go to jail do their time and released why they released ?????? cause getting a second chance ,some repeat stuff over cause not perfect or maybe they have a mental problem ,well no 1 is perfect in my books

Forgiveness means giving up all hope of a better past.

what do you think this means??

it means not focusing on what 'might have been' or 'should have been'

we can forgive without forgetting because there was a lesson to be learned from whatever we went through and forgetting what we went through would kind of diminish the lesson we were meant to learn

but forgiving (learning from the imperfect past) is a gift to ourself(in my opinion)

Does one ever really forget?

I agree with Betty. Forgiving is forgetting...but not in the context that we think of it. We will always remember the past. The good and the bad. Where forgiveness comes from is when the good thoughts prevail and we find the faults in ourselves that makes us equal to the people that have hurt us. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone has their own time to learn their lessons in life. It's up to us to let God do the judging and us do the forgiving.

When you have not forgiven, you always think of what could have been. The past could have been better, IF. Once you forgive, you accept your past for what it is, no matter how ugly, you would not change it. That's why you give up all hope of a better past. :)

I don't .I think as long as you can remeber it and are thinking about ,you have not really forgiven.
In the perfect world maybe...in reality no.

than you can never forgive

a strange being

In my opinion, for what it's worth...you shouldn't be calling anyone 'a strange being' especially not Betty. She could teach us all about forgiving.,or maybe you just had your mind somewhere else???

Aww thank you Vivflowerforyou

In my honest opinion, "I'm sorry" has lost a lot of it's important meaning over the years, since it is said so often.

In my personal opinion, I believe that instead of saying, 'I'm sorry', I'm going to make sure I don't repeat the mistakes.

When forgiving people, I am pretty laid back unless it's a very bad offense. Usually I'm alright, I mean, calling me a name, something like that, I'm usually fine with. If someone breaks my trust, like, in a backstab sense, or if they intentionally do something behind my back, I find it a lot harder to forgive.

:(

I am teaching my toddler this very lesson right now. "Im sorry" is just words if its not backed up by ACTION.

Forgiveness doesnt require that we forget, so long as we dont dwell. Memory is an important asset to keep us from walking off the same cliffs over and over.

Yeah, I was taught from a young age that 'I'm sorry' isn't going to really show unless anything something is done. I wish that 'I'm sorry' carried a lot more of the weight then it does now.

Well whats the bibles view on Forgiveness lets see cause i agree with it :))))) Seeing that God created us he is just a few scriptures can teach Love and forgiveness Matthew 6:12-15
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins............Luke 6:37
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.....Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Even as God forgave you,so you do also....Matthew 18:21-22
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times..................ALSO Remember no 1 is perfect and can make the same mistake more then 1 time cheers  waving  Best advise we can get on the topic :)))

No offense bro....that kind of thing should be in the religion threads.....You know very well that you should have posted this there.
