Its not that she sang poorly.

Its not even that she messed up the words.

My rant is that some of these "professionals" have to make the national anthem about them, and their singing. Therefore they have to put their own "style" into it.

The national anthem is about our country, and what it means to be a part of it.

how can one sing about what it means to be a part of america without coming from someplace PERSONAL TO THEM?

thats like asking to recite a poem with no inflection or emotion because it might seem like its about what you are feeling

well, when you are the performer, it IS what you are feeling

Yes...I agree..National Anthem was about your Country...and is why she should not have screwed that up...A National Anthem for any Country means alot!

I'm sure that she didn't want to make any mistakes (no more than any of us would want to mess up while presenting our talents). It wasn't her choice to make a mistake. The mistake wasn't deliberate. It is what it is, a mistake. We've all had them. We don't get to decide where, when or how they happen and neither did Christina.

Yes...she did not make the mistake on purpose...she is a beautiful singer...will continue to listen to her songs...

singmesweet & s1owhand, thank you for being the voices of reason. Each human has talents, yet none of us are perfect every time we practice our own specific gifts. People who are so eager to condemn christina aguilera for her mistakes, obviously did not learn from their own personal errors. I don't believe anyone enjoys making mistakes and I seriously doubt that those criticizing christina aguilera, would appreciate anyone running their errors into the ground (public figures or not). Harsh judgment of mistakes serves no purpose...Compassion is a admirable alternative.

if you get your car serviced, do you expect the mechanic to add some oil, check three out of four tires for correct pressure, or do you expect perfection. this was a big event that lots of people paid to see, and she SEEMED unprepared.(she did make sure the show went on and sang beautifully)

I think the people who paid a lot for their seats and ended up being told their seats had been taken away when they got there have a lot more to rant about than someone messing up a line of the national anthem.

And in response to comparing an auto mechanic and a singer doesn't really work. Messing up a line in a song isn't going to mess up your car.

yes they do and i have the right to b!tch about it whenever i feel like it. just as you do to "move on with our night".

there is something bigger here than simply messing up a few words to some insignificant song, too bad not all people can comprehend that.

I comprehed KC and I totally agree with you. This is just another small piece of the "country falling apart" puzzle. There are some things in life that we don't make light of OR change. The National Anthem is one of those things and NEITHER is the Pledge of Allegiance.

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

thats kind of funny since both the national anthem and the pledge HAVE actually been changed since their inception

people make mistakes, and people put their OWN hearts into what they speak and sing which will make each persons 'rendition' sound uniquely theirs while still staying true to the INTENT and the lyrics and notes of the song

The National Anthem is a very tough song to sing. It also glorifies war. Americas national anthem should be "This land Is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie.

For the love of Pete!!!!!!!!!

The national anthem is sang before games to honor a nation.

Not to glorify one singer.

She was ill prepared-----so what.

She made mistakes-----i don't care.

She improvised and took the honor unto herself----unforgivable.

it's the fact that you pay for a service, if the service is poor, you get a refund, even if it is only a discount or partial refund

maybe, if the singer was paid or if the listener paid to hear the singer, and if they paid to hear the singer than it would certainly make it feasible that they paid for songs to be performed from THAT SINGERS style

however, those at the bowl paid for football and the performers were not compensated

the performers are part of the deal, what the performers get out of it is not on the ticket holder

They paid for a football game. Do they get a refund if their team messes up and does poorly?
