A little background on my computer: my ex built it for me about 4 years ago, it got a virus about a year ago so I put it in the shop to get it fixed. After I got it fixed it went into my storage because I had no where to set it up at. I have recently moved and got it out of storage and hooked it up. Now, for the problem.. IT WONT FREAKIN START!! It acts like its going to start up then goed to rebooting. No matter if I just let it do its thing, start it in safe mode, or start it with the last known good configuration. It will not start, it just keeps doing this over and over again. Well it did actually start up one time but about 5 mins into me being on it, it restarts and does it all over again. I really dont want to have to put it back in the shop and I cant lose some of the stuff I have saved on there (pics of my daughter and her great great gma and stuff like that). Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this and how I fix it? Please any help would be great!

maybe your best bet is to clean the connections a bit. It sounds to me like there might be something wrong with the power supply or the main baurd for that matter. After a pc has been in storage for a while the best thing to do is totally rebuild it but I guess thats not really a possebility for you. what you doe is you disconnect. clean (with something like compressed air or contact sprai (be carefull with those tho))or mith just blowing on them a little. Then reconnect the plug immediatly. Best chance of getting it right again. Then take out the battery of the main baord leave it out overnight and put it back in there. That would probebly solve it. If not. Try running it wihtout one of the memmory banks. There might be a fault there.
I hope this helps.But maybe a little more information about the computer would be helpfull. What kind it is model and making that kind of thing. |

Can't help you much with the restarting problem without more info but, in case you didn't know- save that hard disk! As long as it still works you can always stick it in another box and get your pics and stuff off it. It's always a shame when I hear of someone losing all their stuff because they think that just because their box won't start, everything is gone.

You need to create a bootable dvd or usb stick, your boot sector may be corrupted so you'll have to reinstall Windows. If you go to this site: http://store.microsoft.com/help/iso-tool you can download a free microsoft tool that will turn your Windows installation disk into a bootable usb, but you'll need another computer to do that. If you don't have an installation disk then you'll have to buy one. Or if you'd prefer you can download the latest ubuntu release utilizing the instructions found here:

I have had them where they get stuck in the continuous loop like that.

If it is XP, use the install disk and use the repair console. I can give you step by step directions how to do it. the only command you need to know in the repair console is CHKDSK -r -p. You have a corrupted registry hence the cyclical starts. Another option if you are not worried about data loss is to reinstall your OS or do a hard Restore which will reset your OS to when it was first installed. This allows it to correct the registry but you suffer data loss.

I corrected my registry by installing Linux. XWindows
 (Ex Windows) DOS has tree. Windows has registry. (register is tree) Set PATH Linux |

There is a program that is called "ERD Commander"
It boots from your dvd drive (make sure your BIOS boot sequence is "boot from cd" You can access your BIOS by hitting f1 or f2 or delete while booting (depending on your BIOS version) ERD commander has it's own user interface and will allow you to restore your system and recover files. First open your case and blow it out . Make sure all your connectors are connected and all fans are spinning. Sometimes it helps to reset your cmos . Unplug your machine and pop out the nickel battery on your motherboard. Put it back in and try to boot. Good luck . Jim |

I bet this will help.. Kay.. Here we go.! All u need is a windows CD.! Since ur PC wont load the dekstop screen, we need to boot the windows from CD.! Turn on ur dekstop., immediately put the windows CD in the drive.. Keep on pressing F10.. A screen will appear askin u where to boot from.?? Chose CD/DVD rom., a black screen will appear, it will take about 5mins to boot.. Windows setup will be opened automatically., donot chose repair., format ur hard disk 1st then install the windows in C/: , it will take about 1hour n ur windows would be installed.. Wait.! You need enter the product key of the windows before installing it.. Hope you have it.. If this doesnt work, let me know i have more tricks... lol |

If you still have that PC, listen. The virus you are talking about is not in your operating system nor your registry.... And you can not get rid of it by formatting your disk or re-installing.. your system has a drive virus. This makes your PC keep rebooting ...You have to re install again but this time do not format the drive. Wait till windows ask you [Do you want to format this partion?] Don't, in stead delete the partion then create another fresh new. Now, install. |

This is what I'd also suggest. If her computer won't turn on how does she create a boot disk. MS does this all the time. If you are having a problem with an internet connection they give you a website to go to. Duh, that is like saying if your car won't start, drive it to a mechanic. If you aren't squeamish about opening up the box (usually 2 screws on the back and slide the left panel off). Look for accumulations of dust and/or maybe a mouse nest. Mice will chew wires as will cockroaches. If that is the case you are better of removing your hard drive and looking for a new computer. Egg Head, Tigetr Direct are both good sites nd you can usually find a Mfr refurbished unit for a substantial discount. Mine is 4 years old and is my second refurb from HP. No problems. Go to WalMart and get a can or 2 of canned air to blow out your computer. Radio Shack and bestBuy also. WalMart is less expensive.. |
