ABBOTSFORD, Wisconsin - A sign excluding black people from a future Abbotsford, Wisconsin business is enraging some people in the small town.

It's a sign generations of people may have never seen, yet Mark Prior says it's his right to discriminate.

"If I've got a problem with you it's going to be on the front of my store," says Mark Prior.

Prior posted his 'No Negros Allowed' sign after he says he had some problems with black people in the past and needed to make a policy against them.

Federal and State law says if the business is open to the public, prohibiting people based on race is illegal. If the man's proposed gentlemen's club was going to be a private club, then an African American historian says he could discriminate.

Legalities aside, his is a sign that many say is appalling.

"I'm going to stick to my guns because I think I have the right as a business owner to reject service to anyone. It's not all the black people there are just a few bad ones," Prior says of his problems in the past.

Prior wants to open a gentlemen's club in a building next to the Abbotsford city hall and library. He says he moved his sign inside after someone with the city asked him to remove it.

"Our mistake is sometimes we look for logic in something that is just plain stupid," says Dr. Selika Ducksworth-Lawton, an African American historian at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Ducksworth-Lawton says she feels Prior is out to get attention.

She says the second he opens his business, he'll be in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Why are you sorry for Wisconsin? It's one business in one small town. Not the entire state.

Your topic is misleading. It's not the state.

its nothing personal, its sincere

much like I would feel sorry for a family who took in a thief,,, its empathy not accusation

this person and his business are WISCONSINS problem primarily because he and his business are in WISCONSIN,, not because there is any flaw in the State of Wisconsin itself

he could just post 'we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone' and then he can discriminate all he wants in a way the PC loonies cannot whine about!

this would be wiser, this is how most modern racism continues with no legal repurcussion,,,,

I think that action could bring a class action suit. Actually, the suggestion of making it a 'private' club, would allow discrimination.

But what would he have to offer members who would ultimately be aware of the policies? How many people would actually join - or more to the point, what prominant or affluent poeple would join? If the source of stature in the community is realted to business, who would take the risk of being involved?

Then there are those who must live and work with all types of ethnic and ractial diversity - how many would want it known that they sought membership with such an organization?

It just doesn't PAY to discriminate.

legal laws to prevent racism increase racism.

it was never about "color", so a law based upon "color", just made "color" more the issue.

it was always about "caring for other people", AT LEAST TO THE POINT OF NO PHYSICAL HARM TO THEM.

that is the only basis that ANY NON DISCRIMMINATORY LAW could be based on.

all the laws to keep him from saying this are not needed..

some black dude will comekick his asss, for being so childish, and pay the consequence.

of HARM TO A HUMAN.

and if the black guy who kicks his asss, weighed felt it was serious enough to harm, than it was to him, and he decided any harm for himself from the law about it, was worth it.

and mr white dude, would not be stupid enough to encite the possible, of bringing wrath upon himself, lest he too, accepted all the POSSIBLES OF SUCH.

either way, there is NO LAW NEEDED FOR DISCRIMMINATION.

LAWS BASED IN SUCH CREATE ALL RACISM THAT EVER EXISTED INTO MORE RACISM BEINGT FULED, AND WHY RACISM HAS NOT WENT AWAY.

there is NO BLACK AND WHITE.

if the value be equal, than there can exist no law protecting one more than the other.

human.

The is just putting in writing what a lot of folks feel already.
Wisconsin, Milwaukee in particular, is one of the most segregated places in the U.S..

because our politicians, BLACK AND WHITE, don't see MANY OTHER'S, in fact, very, very, very few as EQUAL TO THEMSELF, or they would EASILY SEE HOW TO FIX IT.

they are just clamoring to APPEASE, to stay IN POWER, not to FIX OR CREATE EQUAL, NOR PEACE.

One of my friends works in a pet store in Gardena. They serve a broad cross section of customers but oddly the one racial sector that gives him undue grief is the blacks who enter the store. Now bear in mind a lot of them are just regular folks but when the Ghetto (N WORD) come they are nothing but trouble. He has had his life threatened, the store has been robbed three times, all blacks! These same Ghetto Trash have the balls to attempt to physically intimidate him and they are the first to play the race card. The store is owned by a Korean woman who ran it for over 30 years. No other racial group gives them any trouble.

Now for as sad as this is the actions of a few speak for the whole group in many unjust cases in this life and this country. Racism works both ways. Sadly there is nothing done to Black Racists at all under the law. They are treated like they are misunderstood. NOW how can we forget the Jamaican who took a gun int a New York subway and killed five people and wounded another seven or eight? And the reason this gentleman admitted to in court? "Black Rage!"

Sad to say but if most of the blacks in an area cause most of (80% is a good number) trouble they get banned causing the ones who are not out causing trouble to suffer unjustly.

So how about that United Negro College Fund? Is this not racially biased as an organization? If this can exist I feel businesses can chose who they want as customers ESPECIALLY if they require membership. Fair is fair no matter how much any one likes or dislikes it!

I respect his freedom to say it and feel it.

I hope his patrons are able to show him the error of his ways.

It is sad to see humans deny themselves the experience in life of all humans and their differences and similarities.

Agree with him or not, he has the right to display the sign. He has the right to refuse service to ANYONE (meaning, any race of people).

Its not the smartest move for a business, but if thats the way he wants to run it, its his own choice.

I wonder if he likes President Obama?

and i wonder why that matters?

such would be but asked to imply racism may exist.

if he did not obama, that would in no way, mean he did not like black people.

you can "not like" many sects.

there is no racism in not liking somebody.

the notions of racism themself, fill the brain with the first notions such shitz is about color.

those that scream racism the loudest, are using racist thinking themself.

actually, the UNCF is not selective about what race its 'customers' are, it provides funding for HISTORICALLY black colleges which are so named because of previous SEGREGATION LAWS which made it necessary to have such schools, but the schools are no longer EXCLUSIVE to one race

yes, if it is a private club it is his right to have such a practice, if it is not he doesnt,,,,the law is pretty clear on it

and I believe he should have that right, in a private club, but that he is a sad man to have come to such a conclusion about a group based upon what some have done

yet I have been there before too, assaulted twice by white males and allowing that to skew my opinion of all I saw who resembled them ,,,for a while

I have evolved,,, thank goodness,,,
