Topic: Have you ever been in really bad weather? | |
---|---|
I was caught in a really bad snow storm a few years ago, that when I got out of work and started driving home was just horrible. I called my Mom an hour after I left work and she was like "oh thank God, you made it home..." I replied "HOME?????? I haven't even made it three miles from my job yet!!!!" I had to get home because my young teenage girls were there. The ride usually takes me 45 minutes, that day took me almost six hours. yes, either last winter or the year before I had a somewhat similar experience - they let us off early to beat the traffic but problem was the city hadn't plowed yet. And apparently a lot of people had gone home early cuz thre was a TON of traffic. Took me a little over an hour to drive what notmally took 10 minutes - partly cuz I had to take a long way around to avoid this really bad highway bridge in our area |

probably the worst tho was many years ago - 20+ at least - my now EX husband & I were driving to New York State - upstate - through the snowbelt region south of Buffalo at Christmas time...in a blizzard. A real blizzard, not a snow storm
When I mentioned possibly getting OFF of the highway, my ex said "no, the cops might not let us get back on." Apparently he heard that Rt 90 had been closed on the radio & I hadn't noticed. We had a 3 year old and an infant in the backseat, and it was pitch dark. Next thing my ex said was, "stick your head out the window to make sure we're still on the road." I complied of course, but also commented to no effect that there was probably a GOOD REASON why the highway was closed and we weren't supposed to be on there. (By this time it was late, and no, I could NOT see the edge lines on the highway-or much else besides snow). As I recall he told one of my brother's in law that I had been nagging him on the trip DAMM STRAIGHT SUCKA...well, guess we're exes for a reason |

Had guests visit from North Carolina staying at a hotel off of I-20. After the first night, they came out of thier room in the morning and discovered that a passing tornado sucked all the bricks off of that side of the hotel. didnt just knock brick loose....there was no brick to be seen.......just gone.
They went back inside and packed thier s**t and bailed. never did come back. |

Oh I don't know, I was in an ice storm that threw a layer of ice about two inches deep around everything. Brought down trees onto the house and power lines, temps below zero (Farinheight) and no power or water for 14 days. The upside was I had plenty of ice to melt down to make water. I don't know if that counts or not.

In 2004 three hurricanes came thru here in a couple weeks time.
Hurricanes are cool to observe, but the aftermath is kinda like long divison. No power = No fun. |

You tell me
I was driving to work one time and my water pump froze up. But at this time I didn't know that. So I go to get the antifreeze to check if it needs some. I have two bottles. I grab one and open up the radiator cap and start to pour. Hm, nothing is coming out? I look and realize that one was water and it was solid as a block. Does that conceder bad weather? |
