"Just a Place-Keeper"

I’m a minor character
In this fairy tale.
I’m here for a bit,
just for a short span of time.

Really, I’m not important.
I’m not stupid—I
don’t assume otherwise.
But it doesn’t make it hurt less,
you know—but hey,
it’s no surprise...

I’m just your place-keeper,
a bookmark in your life.
Someone else is meant to go here,
and it’s only a matter of time.
I know I’m not important,
and these dreams are fantasy,
but I’m okay with being a side-note,
when you’re here with me.

Part of me is scared for when
this chapter of life comes to an end,
because I know how much it’ll hurt,
and it may never mend.
Perhaps it’s because you mean
everything to me,
but I wish that you might stay,
instead of leaving me.


I am just your place-keeper,

but hey, who wouldn’t be?
I will be asked to step aside
for someone that I’ll never be!

to see the pain in me.

I know that I am useless,
and I live in fantasies,
but I wish I wasn’t such a side-note
when you were here with me.
