I don't think that government ettiquette policy translates well to the masses... I don't want to have to act like a gov't employee...

Some ppl care about labels, some don't... treat each person as an individual.

But if someone gets offend by a generaliztion that I might use in conversation... I appologize an move on. I don't dwell on it because I already know that my own heart is clean in most of these matters.

I do hope that they realize that there are too many personal preferences out there to believe that there is 1 "correct" way of phrasing something.

A politic of "correctness" isn't mandated, it's an internal thing.

When I see someone complain about being Politically Correct, I see a person who is too selfish to care enough about others to try not to offend them.

When did being the better person, practicing the golden rule, become almost extinct?

Golden Rule in case it is forgotten is treating others better than you treat yourself.

Since when did lying become the norm to protect others feelings? What is politically correct but white lies in order to make everyone feel nice and comfy......does it change facts? no........all it does is hide the the meanness from society in oreder to make society all nice and shocked when a hate crime takes place....

So what your saying is treating others with reasonable respect is all a conspiracy to keep hate crimes shocking. interesting.. for me personally hate crimes arent that shocking.. people hate and even if we solve all our differences right now people will find some reason to hate..

this post was made after a pretty close minded rude conversation was going on in the previous posts. and i think you did quite well in voicing your opinion without being rude or offensive just for the sake of being rude and offensive.. i dont think anyone should be censored and sometimes you gotta be a little blunt to show your point but at some point communication breaks down and you just hurt your own point by being a d i c k for no reason.. (not you personally all of us)

No, not really what I was saying.........but I do believe all it does is hide the actual sentiment of hate. I would rather have it open and to my face, instead of hidden and back stabbing. I would rather know what I face instead of covering it up with a nice pretty blanket and bows than to pretend its no longer there.

Once again, no cigar ...

Political Correctness (PC) is the communal tyranny that erupted in the 1980s. It is a spontaneous declaration that particular ideas, expressions and behaviour, which are legal, should be forbidden by law, and people who transgress should be punished. (see Newspeak) It became unwritten and written law within the community. Those who were declared as being not politically correct became the object of persecution (just like they are today).

The proponents of this social demolition achieve their irrational purpose by publicly embracing absurdity through slogans while vilifying any who do not support their stance. The purpose of the slogan is to enshrine irrational fears as truth through the use of presumptuous words, so public pronouncement:

• Dissembles the real nature of the claim

• Identifies any dissenters as enemies of the truth

• Acts as an excuse for any crimes committed in its name

Unless plain speaking is allowed, clear thinking is denied. There can be no good reason for denying freedom of expression. There is no case to rebut, only the empty slogans of people inspired by selfishness and unrestrained by morality.

The proponents of this nonsense neither understand the implications of what they say, nor why they say it.

Once again, Orwell is proven right: Those who control the language control the thoughts.

i think being pc is stupid...walking on pins and needles just because some weak minded person might get their feelings hurt...hurt feelings are a part of life, there's no reason to hide that fact with lies. a nation of distrust because everyone lies to everyone else.

I find American Political Correctness to be an absurd hypocrasy...nobody here is PC., we are all racists, bigots, misogynists, etc., etc,...and yet..we all manage to get along just fine.

why do people equate lying with political correct?

AM I lying if I say 'that dress doesnt flatter you' instead of 'that dress makes you look fat"?

am I lying if I say 'I wasnt attracted to him' instead of 'he was ugly' ?

like someone else stated, the english language is such that there isnt just ONE correct way to say anything (especially anything that involves opinion)

Because people lie in order to be politically correct and polictical correctness is just a fad to hide the true sentiment of others

Does anyone have a copy of any of these policies? I think they'd make a good basis for specific discusion.

The only time being politically correct equates to lying is if the person feels their words are going to be perceived as wrong by others.

White racists feel that being pc is a burden to their freedom of speech because if they say what they want to say other white people may think badly of them.

But being PC at no level equates to lying for a normal human who is not perpetrating some kind of hatred.

Instead of using a negative terminology to describe a person or people and using a more acceptable terminology isn't lying at any level. It is showing others respect.

So I guess there is a problem with showing human respect to other humans.

if people deserve respect, then i'll give them respect. if i feel they haven't earned it, i'm not going to give it. being polite is one thing, but everyone has a different interpretation of "politeness"

then it comes down to a matter of respect..racism objectifies the "other" as being inferior, less than human, thus undeserving of being treated as an equal, no amount of Political Correctness is going to make that go away..when a white racist recants his or her statements because they are afraid of the damage it will do to their political careers you have the lowest of the lowest when it comes to hipocrates and thats what I mean by my former statement..if you believe a certain way then have the integrity to stick to your convictions..if youre a racists then be that, dont pretend to be something else...if you respect people then do so regardless of what others think...thats just my 2cents....

I will not be intimidated by those who think they have the 'right' to tell me what to think and say - THAT's what PC boils down to.

I know those who think they are the "great determiners" of respect are usually the ones who deserve it less than those they disrespect.

But I will still be PC and give them that initial respect because I am that kind of person.
