Robert Englund Has A Mole Problem

The problem with low budget horror comedies? They're a dime a dozen and most of them just aren't funny. But every now and then you find one that gets things right and upcoming effort The Mole Man Of Belmont Avenue might just be one of those.

First of all the core creative team are culled from Chicago's thriving improv comedy scene. Which means that they're naturally funny people who understand a thing or two about performance.

Second? They also had the good sense to call in a ringer in the form of the iconic Robert Englund. Yep, while Hollywood's been busy with a big budget remake of the franchise Englund made, Englund himself has been hanging out in Chicago goofing around with a bunch of improv geeks.

Synopsis!

Marion and Jarmon Mugg have never had to work very hard. They've never had much responsibility, and no one has ever put any expectations on them to perform or achieve, well... anything.

But two years ago their mother died, leaving them the brownstone apartment building that has been in the family since its days as a speakeasy during Prohibition. In that short time, their slacker ways have run the building into the ground. The tenants are moving out, no one but them and their friends drinks at the bar on the ground floor, and the building's pets are going missing. If all that isn't enough to make them sit up and take notice, there's also a good chance that a monster is living in the basement.

"The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue" is a horror/ comedy that explores what happens when a terrible situation is dropped into the laps of the two people least equipped to deal with it. The Brothers Mugg can either step up to the plate and finally grow up, or they can wait and clean up the mess as a mysterious creature eats every living thing in the building, one by one.

The budget limitations are obvious in the trailer but it looks like a good time anyway.

Did anyone else read magazines like Eerie, Creepy, or Vampirella? I still collect them here and there. They were all published by Warren. Some great and memorable horror themed stories(like the EC Comics from the 40's and 50's)

There was also ones put out by Eerie Publications, like Weird, and Horror Tales, their art wasn't as good, but they were still entertaining.

About a decade or so ago there was a comic shop in the town I currently reside in. I used to pick up oldschool horror comics from them because they were so cheap. Loved them.

I probably still have them in storage along with everything else. Not sure on the titles, though.

I've got a huge collection of the horror comics put out by DC like House of Mystery, House Of Secrets, Secrets of Haunted House, The Unexpected, Weird Mystery Tales, The Witching Hour. And the ones put out by Charlton- Haunted, The Many Ghosts Of Doctor Graves, Scary Tales.
I also have Twilight Zone comics, and ones based on Boris Karloff's Thriller.

The one I read over and over as a kid was the special 100 page issue of House Of Mystery....I read it every Halloween for many years.

Trailer Debut for John Landis' Horror Comedy 'Burke & Hare'!

From director John Landis (An American Werewolf in London) comes Burke & Hare, a comedic take on the true story of the 1828 Edinburgh body-snatchers William Burke (Simon Pegg) and William Hare (Andy Serkis). These two Irish entrepreneurs discover that a dead body can fetch a hefty price when the demands of the leading medical professors Dr. Knox (Tom Wilkinson) and Dr. Monroe (Tim Curry) reach beyond that of the local supply. With AFM just around the corner, Bloody Disgusting scored a look at the official UK trailer that looks pretty damn fun. Dig on it below and watch for some first images and a poster soon.

The Devil Creates a 'Gathering' of Horror Greats

The Devil gathers four of history’s greatest horror writers to share their scariest stories on Halloween. The result? Horror stars uniting.

Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees in various Friday the 13th), Gunnar Hansen ("Leatherface" in Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Judith O'Dea ("Barbara" in Night of the Living Dead), Udo Kier (Suspiria, Blade), Doug Bradley ("Pinhead" in Hellraiser) and William Sadler (The Mist) lead an all-star cast for Jon Keeyes' The Gathering, which IMDB also says stars Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger), David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London), Debbie Rochon and many more horror vets.

Shooting is scheduled for 4th quarter of this year.

Here's the plot crunch:

"It’s All Hallow’s Eve in purgatory and the Devil has gathered Edgar Allen Poe, Bram Stoker, H.P. Lovecraft and Mary Shelley for a night of storytelling; the winner receiving whatever they desire. Between snide remarks and bickering rivalries, each takes a turn unveiling their tales that include vampires, werewolves, zombies, ghosts, serial killers, and mad scientists.

'The Gathering' follows the successful anthology format with the Devil and the horror authors rounding out the framework. All popular with enormous cult followings, this modern take on the personalities and quirks of these literary legends is often hysterical and genuinely macabre. Contained within the inner stories are unique and original tales that will appeal to the broad mass of horror enthusiasts."

Vault Of Horror? Tales from the Crypt? The Haunt of Fear? Those were some of the best:)

Inspired several of The Tales From The Crypt episodes too. I miss those days. Some of those episodes were more eerie and freakishly scarier than a lot of these so called ''horror'' movies.

EC Comics. Definitely a big influence on horror(in all medias). Even Stephen King says reading those as a kid was what got him into horror. Creepshow is King and Romero's tribute.

I was looking at the Blood Bath 12 Movie Set, but I think I'll pass. Especially when one of their selling points is Scream Queen: Fiona Horsey, sorry, starring in 3 crappy straight to DVD horror flicks does not make you a Scream Queen.

First 'Friday the 13th' star's dreams are now in rural Oregon

It's one of the biggest scares in scary movies.

That final scene, a dream sequence, in the original "Friday the 13th." (We're talking the 1980 cult hit, not last year's "reimagined" creation by Michael Bay.)

Exhausted teenager Alice Hardy, having just vanquished the crazed killer at Camp Crystal Lake, rests quietly in a boat on the calm water.

Suddenly, Jason Voorhees crashes up from the lake, moss-covered, burned limbs pulling the heroine under.

"It was 28 degrees outside and we had no money for wet suits. I had only one extra pair of jeans and a shirt that I brought," recalls actress Adrienne King.

For the past six years, King, who played the iconic survivor in the first two "Friday the 13th" films, has lived in Jacksonville, Ore.

"It's still one of the scariest endings in cinematic history," she says. "I mean, they went all out to make a killer movie."

No one in the cast, which included randy victim Kevin Bacon, imagined their teen screams were inaugurating a cultural phenomenon: 12 movies, a TV series, book and comic book adaptations, and who knows how many hockey masks sold at Halloween, all over the past 30 years. Adding up the receipts, "Friday the 13th" may be the most successful horror film franchise ever.

"It has spawned a life of its own," King, 50, says. "We were praying the movie would just be finished!"

King is speaking from the offices of Valley View Winery, where she began working earlier this year as hospitality coordinator.

Valley View also launched "Crystal Lake," a wine label inspired by her horror movie history. A lifelong painter, King created the ominous artwork adorning the bottles.

One of the varietals, "Survivor's Syrah," is particularly personal.

Spooked by a stalker after the first movie's release, King felt she needed to put her on-screen work on hiatus. She moved to London and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. When she returned, she stayed largely behind the scenes, doing voice-overs. She's since shared the soundstage with Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp, looping for projects from "Melrose Place" to "Titanic."

On a drive down from Eugene, coming through the Rogue Valley after attending her sister-in-law's graduation from the University of Oregon, she and her husband decided to plant new roots.

"We didn't know what we were doing. We knew we were tired of L.A. and wanted to enjoy life," says King, whose husband is a former film producer and distributor.

"We have 27 acres, a mile and a half of river, 16 llamas, and goats and dogs," she says. "I feel like I've found my home."

She's in good company. When he's not in Florida filming the cable series "Burn Notice," fellow horror actor Bruce Campbell ("The Evil Dead") lives down the road.

Recently, King has taken steps back in front of the camera, starring in the indie-thriller "Walking Distance," which premiered this spring at the Dallas International Film Festival. Soon, King heads to Portland to start shooting "The Innocent," a drama about teen bullying.

She credits loyal horror movie fans -- die-hards who line up for her autograph at conventions from coast to coast -- for helping her return to acting.

Online, those same fans have her popping up in roles that haven't quite materialized, however.

Rumors on horror fansites had her making a cameo in last year's "Friday the 13th" reboot. But King never saw a script. Lately the buzz was she would appear in "Scream 4," but she didn't get the chance to connect with director Wes Craven before filming wrapped.

"Wes and Sean (Cunningham, the director of "Friday the 13th") worked together on a lot of things," she says. "So maybe 'Scream 5,' but not "4.'"

King doesn't think much of the current wave of "torture-porn" thrillers in the "Saw" vein, which go way beyond the slasher flicks of the '80s.

"When you ride a roller coaster you kind of want to feel good at the end," she says. "There was something redeeming about 'Friday the 13th' and the girl coming out of it. And you know, there's not one bad word in it. I think for a second you see Kevin Bacon's tush. There were sweet moments."

Her character's demise was never actually shown in the films, leaving room, she says, for who knows what.

"It was really left kind of open, if they wanted me back," King says. "Alice is still out there."
