not exactly...for example...Canada defends and protects the largest coastline on the globe, is it so hard to believe that a big percentage of illegals are still stow aways??? In this case the only exception would be mexicans jumping the border....they are attached to us.... as for the other types of illegals......they HAVE to arrive via water....they can't fly...99.9% don't have the $ to fly, and or don't have a passport. To this day water is where the majority come from. Asian, middle eastern etc....

cant speak for Canadian policy, but the AMERICAN side, stops immigrants In the water and sends them back and we are very vigilante in that effort,,(moreso than the effort to stop those crossing land borders)

not even sure what you are replying to,, but, the illegal immigration is not such an issue with those crossing the OCEAN to get here ,, they catch MOST of them pretty quickly and either put them in camps or send them RIGHT BACK HOME

MsHarmony, I agree that illegal immigration is not as much of a problem with those who cross the ocean, but I disagree that they catch most of them quickly. I have personally known many dozens of students here on J1 visas who attempted to remain in the country illegally far beyond their visa expiration date - all of them were successful except for those who were caught committing other crimes. And I don't mean traffic violations - I mean shoplifting and the like.

Maybe its different if you are from the middle east, given the terrorist paranoia we have, but for students from other countries it is, apparently, very easy to remain in the US illegally after your visa has expired.

Many of them eventually found a wife, got married, and became citizens. I don't know how they avoided retroactive punishment for violating their visa in that process, but all of them were able to do so.

I agree that immigration from mexico is very different than immigration from any other country simply because (a) the numbers are so much larger (b) its so much easier to cross the land border (despite the horror stories we hear) and (c) they have a massive support infrastructure - esp the huge communities they can live in without ever needing to learn english or have proper paperwork.

not to me its not. its more disappointing to me that we have Americans over here that say people like me are just racist. its degrading to me the these same people can't stand up for THEIR country to. and its very shameful that these same americans can talk good about these people that want to kill them and their children.

Please stay up on the posts, there sweetie. Number one...they have children here...we have to pay. For the child in school, then in college. They are taking the very benefits from our children. We have to fight and scrap for every dime to help our children. They get it thrown at them...

And they don't pay income taxes...how could they if they don't have a ss # to begin with (some actually have FAKES <gasps>)? (Most are paid under the table in cash...where do they claim that on their taxes) So they don't contribute...they suck it right out of the till and don't repay a dime.

And stiffing the hospitals, health care systems...she gets prego in Mexico...gets in the country...has the child here...in an American hospital...gets the same care as a LEGAL immigrant who pays. I do not nor have I ever claimed responsibility for another woman getting prego and me having to pay for the child. I take care of my child...my responsibility.
