Do you think your religion would be accepted there?

Personally speaking, I fit in everywhere because I have no religion

No. In the MidEast, you'd still be considered an Infidel, as property, and/or a candidate for sale as a sex slave or, if you're lucky, death.

Helluva choice, ain't it ... ?

Untrue so no choice needed.

And you know this precisely HOW ... ? Not thru travel to the MidEast, I'll wager ... Opinion isn't a real good weapon when reality comes a-knockin' ... remember 'dhimmitude' when it comes.

I didn't read the whole thread, but it's overall very over-reactionary. The latest reports about it say that the building will be more like a YMCA than a mosque. It's called the "Cordoba House", last I heard. I'll post a link when I find it online.

This is in bad taste, I believe in the freedom of speech, freedom of movement and all the little 'perks' afforded with it BUT; how insensitive and downright disrespectful (to say the least) for these people to ask for permission to build a mosque on a place where so many lost their lives - and all in the name of religious fanaticism. The Christians, Buddist, Catholics,Jews, Pentecostals,Seventh Day Adventists and all other regilious orders/following should apply for permission to have a house of worship built alongside the mosque, it would be quite interesting to see if they would be granted the same exalted status!!!

Muslim Victims of September 11th Attack

Inna li-lahi wa inna li-layhi raja'un.

From Allah we come, and to Him is our return.

Thousands of innocent lives were lost on September 11, 2001, and our hearts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones. For several hundred of the victims of 9/11, grief and sorrow has been compounded by constant suspicion, bias, hatred, and attacks on the faith they hold dear.

Imagine being the family of Salman Hamdani. The 23-year-old New York City police cadet was a part-time ambulance driver, incoming medical student, and devout Muslim. When he disappeared on September 11, law enforcement officials came to his family, seeking him for questioning in relation to the terrorist attacks. They allegedly believed he was somehow involved. His whereabouts were undetermined for over six months, until his remains were finally identified. He was found near the North Tower, with his EMT medical bag beside him, presumably doing everything he could to help those in need. His family could finally rest, knowing that he died the hero they always knew him to be.

Or imagine being Baraheen Ashrafi, nine months pregnant with her second child. Her husband, Mohammad Chowdhury, was a waiter at Windows of the World restaurant, on the top floors of Tower One. The morning of September 11, they prayed salaat-l-fajr (the pre-dawn prayer) together, and he went off to work. She never saw him again. Their son, Farqad, was born 48 hours after the attacks -- one of the first 9/11 orphans to be born. In an interview with CTV Canada, she relates that in the months to follow, she mourned for her husband and endured the hostility of some ignorant people around her. "When they saw me ... I'm wearing a scarf. There is a hate look."

Or consider Rahma Salie, a passenger on American Airlines #11 that crashed into the North Tower. Rahma, a Muslim of Sri Lankan origin, was traveling with her husband Michael (a convert to Islam) to attend a friend's wedding in California. Rahma was 7 months pregnant with their first child. According to the Independent UK (October 11, 2001), Rahma's name was initially put on an FBI watch list, because her "Muslim-sounding" name was on the passenger manifest, and her travel patterns were similar to those of the hijackers (she was a computer consultant living in Boston). Although her name was eventually removed from the list, several of her family members were barred from taking flights to her memorial service. Her mother, Haleema, said, "I would like everyone to know that she was a Muslim, she is a Muslim and we are victims too, of this tragic incident.”

Partial List of Muslim 9/11 Victims:

I am glad that the people of New York are going through with it and I hope that the nay sayers have some insight into themselves.

The naysayers will find that they are falsely punishing a group of people not responsible for 9/11 if they look into themselves enough.

why am i not surprised...

Many a bombing attacks in the UK have been planned in mosques, bomb making materials have been stored in mosques. Mosques in the UK have been searched for incendiary devices because the fanatics have hidden behind the mosque as a haven. All of the followers of Mohammed may not be fanatics, but do you really want to take the chance? The saying 'One rotten apple' springs to mind.

this is similar, sadly, to the ongoing racism debate,, the religionist debates

once upon a time, minorities could not have any privileges and were mandated all sorts of responsiblities,, when the laws changed this, those same minorities were basically told by many to 'pick themselves up' and not ask for 'hand outs'

when those same minorities did that very thing, tried to 'pick themselves up' they were labled with 'reverse discrimination' and still hated

now I see muslims who were taunted after 9/11 to act and speak out against those anti american actions, building a community center and mosque for ALL in the community to build interfaith relationships,,,,and still people blame them saying they are being'disrespectful' or taunting

they cant win either way amongst those who will always lump EVERYONE of a particular faith in together, so they may as well go through with the plan and let the proof be in the pudding,,

see the thing is it's in the constitution they meaning muslims can do that here in this country also look at it this way timothy mcviegh was a chritian so would it be an insult to build a christian base church near the oklahoma city building that was bombed...but on the other hand i really don't think the muslim community should open it there cause another timothy mcviegh may have some ideas
