Seriously, if you find one you really like. Always before you sign the papers. Pull into the parking lot around 11pm, midnight or so and just see how the nightlife is criminal wise, noise, domestic arguments, just the annoying stuff.

Oh and if there are bars on the windows and you have a bunch of thug looking guys on the stoop that you have to walk through. WRONG part of town.

A rotting corpse hidden away, or an outline of one would be a sign to look elsewhere. shocked scared

Figure out what you need in advance. If you need to have your own laundry, don't settle for none, or a laundry room down the hall that you have to share, cuz they're often crowded, and/or not clean. If you have a lot of stuff, think of a two or three bdrm. If you have a lot of vehicular stuff, think of one with a garage.

Many apartments have 1st month free, or no security deposit, and with the colleges opening up soon for the fall, it'll be active anywhere around a larger town/city.
Ground floor apts. cost a bit more, but are worth every penny come moving day, and when coming home with groceries, or a buzz..drinks

If you already know the town, great. If you don't, talk to the local police, and ask what areas to avoid. If you do know the town, talk to your future neighbors and ask them how the service is from your prospective landlord.

Check out the lease terms for when
they can raise the rent.
Lower occupancy rates at a complex
can net you a better deal.

Once you choose one, take pictures before you move your stuff in.

- Take pictures before you move in.

- Look for any mold especially in basements (I had this problem)

- Save ALL emails your landlord sends you in case there is a future problem to arise.

- Check the neighbourhood out.

- Laundry is deffinitly big issue. I always tried to find a place with facilities there or at least hook ups.

- Don't settle for a dump.

I hope you find a beautiful apartment with great success newark!

I used an apartment locator service that I found on..Well I won't say where I found them..just online..The guy didn't listen to a word that I said..lol.He took me to all these places that were too small..my chair wouldn't fit through the doors..and they were waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my price range..PLUS They were not in the best of areas..and the neighbors were all outside everywhere..and this was during the day..I hate to think where they are at night..After going through all of that I started fighting to stay where I was at to begin with!..lol.

All good advice. Thank you. I am going to try and find an old house that has been divided up. I don't need alot of room but I am hoping for one room big enough for my pool table. Doubt that will happen but I can hope. Thanks again....drinker

Why not get a duplex then they are normally much smaller then a house but yet the same comfort as one get a 2 bedroom and use the extra bedroom for your pool table..... or use the living room and make the extra room the living room....bigsmile

Make sure you read the whole contract no matter how boring. At times they will slip those little things in you did not see that can bite ya in the butt later....grumble

I would highly suggest renting from a place that is owned by a larger leasing company, they HAVE to play by the rules. The smaller guys will eff with you.

Those places are also going to be more expensive.

I have looked at some like this. They are very well taken care of. Unfortunately, they are not in the area I would like to stay. I appreciate the advice...flowerforyou
