The worst thing about smoking is trying to quit! After having that companionship for 26 years, it's extremely difficult to function without them. I'm on day 15, cold turkey, with nothing but oxygen infiltrating the lungs.
As you can see, I'm experiencing a wide range of emotions. I'm not stupid enough to think I've kicked the habit this quickly, and I wonder if I'll ever really think of myself as a non-smoker. I'm more apt to say I'm a smoker that currently doesn't smoke, if that makes sense. I definitely wouldn't get involved with anyone that abhors it since it's quite possible the quitting won't stick. Of course, becoming involved with a non-smoker would surely help my cause but this would assume I could find a date with either smokers or non-smokers, something that is less likely than me quitting smoking permanently! |

The only thing I have against smokers is that I'm not a smoker. So the smoke does bother me. I can handle it if I'm around them for a while, but I couldn't live with a smoker, so if I meet a smoker it can't go beyond friendship.

You are an amazing woman and can do anything you put your mind to. I have complete faith in you and your strength to succeed. |

Thanks to both of you.
Not sure why this time feels different but it does. I'm hopeful, which is somehow different from delusional, although I'm not sure exactly how. Whatever works I guess! |

I cannot stand a dirty ashtray, always dumping them wherever I go.

Best wishes to you with this. I know it's challenging, I guess it would get better and better each day. Hang in there |

The best way to quit smoking is to get that one friend that always tries to make you look bad, and make him(her) be your support group. That's how I quit, my support group is the one guy I know will say "I knew you couldn't do it." I won't give him the satisfaction, even two years after the fact.

I have been quit since 9/09/09 and I am still struggling with the desire to have a cig.
I guess 29 years of reaching for a cig is a hard habit to break. I am still gaining weight. |

Yeah, I still get the urge to smoke, almost daily. I switched to munching grapes instead of chips, that seemed to stop the weight gain at about 35 pounds. Exercise got that back down to 25, but I still have some work to do.

I hate the fact that they control me to some extent. As well in todays world they are socially limiting (Unlike the 50's when smoking was a used as a nice way to relax and socialize). If I'm having a stressful day I smoke more and sometimes if I'm having trouble sleeping cause I got stuff on my mind I can't sleep till I have that last one. I'm very glad I live in a non-smoking building and it's a pain in the butt to go out everytime I have the urge. It has helped me to cut down considerably. I can sometimes go 3 or 4 hours w/o the urge bugging at me. I dont care if I quit, i just want to stop for a while. With any luck that "while" will continue through the rest of my life.
