I was in the Army stationed at Ft Jackson. I was a Drill Sergeant in the field with my soldiers we found out what was going on by listening to a radio that was snuck along with gear by another Drill Sergeant. We ceased training to inform the soldiers what had happened and tried to ascertain who had family in the areas that were attacked.

I was working as a Thermal Direct Printer Operator for an automotive service parts packer. I was keying in part numbers when the President of the company, Mike, came into my area and said terrorists just bombed NYC. The Quality Supervisor (who sat next to me) and I just looked at him and said, ya, funny, and we kept on working.
Then he went into the Customer Service area and said the same thing and everybody was laughing - like - ya, Mike very funny! No one would believe him (we thought we were invincible then), so he got more & more insistent. I was working online coincidentally (we did a lot of database stuff offline usually) so I clicked onto a news site like msn, and said Hey you guys he's serious it really happend!!! Someone ran to get a TV to put in the lobby and I immediately emailed a friend in Ireland, one in Germany, and a couple of friends in Civilian roles in US gov't - an SOS kinda thing. In case of - who knows what!!! told them I wanted to get a msg out while I could - cuz none of us knew what would happen to communications....or how widespread the attack would be, and we live less than 5 miles from Wright Patterson Air Force Base. We were scared they'd attack the base. |

I was in 3rd grade... I feel old. I was in history class. The school sent out an order that all the TV's had to be turned off, but my history teacher refused to and let me skip my next class to watch the news coverage. |

Getting ready to go to work....I worked at a college in New Mexico. It was a stressful day writing press releases and forwarding them to the webmaster. It affected everyone! The entire campus was cloaked in a feeling of disbelief.

Yeah well it was my opinion you do not know who has family where and if you are going to be on my jobsite......keep your head on the job....allowing it was humanitarian but a wise business decision as well......insurance rates vs injuries on the job.... |
