What does it matter?

It is in the past.

What have you done since then?

Was on my way to work when the first one hit and I thought...wow how awful...not only that a plane crashed but that it hit a building? I had no idea of how bad it really was and then the 2nd plane hit. I worked for an aircraft manufacturer and handled our biggest customer based out of D.C. So not only was it horrific that it even happened but the subsequent closing of all the major airports and all those flights in the air....total CHAOS at work for days with all our customers grounded in various places...not being able to get to maintenance bases...and throughout it all...the thoughts of all those people dying and in pain...their families! And that human beings were responsible for it all! And I use that term VERY loosely here! brokenheart

I was working as a bartender at one of the major local casinos. The whole casino went quiet which I have never before seen in my life. Then I remember thinking thank god George Bush is our President!

I was home, watching the news. Very surreal when it came up on the screen.

Just after I arrived to work at a job near June Lake,Ca. I walked up to a guy sitting in his truck to say good morning and he was listening to the radio reports. Later, I went into Lee Vining near Mono lake where I went into a gas station/minimart. That is when I first saw the images on their TV.

To put it as briefly and succinctly as possible, the value of history is, that kowledge of it allows humanity to learn from our mistakes if we will.

We learn about ourselves as well. The OPs questions allowed me to reflect on some things I value deeply but have lost sight of recently in the business of my day to day life.

Those who ignore history are hellbound to repeat the mistakes of the past.

I was 6th grade second period English class... We were discussing the word of the day [which was tintinnabulation, btw] and the TV's in the front of the room kicked on and news reports showing the first crash played over and over and then it cut to live feed as the second hit... I've never seen a group of 13 year old shut up so quickly....

I was at work. My boss was in his office next to me watching the morning news when they broke in with the announcement. He called us all into his office and we stood there in disbelief as the second plane hit. Needless to say we spent most of the morning staring at the TV.

sitting in an office waiting to get to work. I remember being shocked then getting on the phone checking on a friend. I cried for a week. It's still a hard memory.

I remember that evening I was in the e.r. on the floor writhing in pain as my eardrum was about to burst. I was watching the images on the television there at the same time - it seemed so surreal. It took me over a week to actually make myself believe it was all reality - that it actually happened. Sad, sad day. I always show a video in commemoration of that day in my classroom. Most of my students this year were too young to remember very much.
