The first is they try to paint Republicans as racists. That's comical when you look at a couple of their elected officials like Senator Robert Byrd(The senior Democrat in the Chambers) and Governor Ross Barnett.

Here is a portion of a letter he sent to a Senator.

I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds. ”
— Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944

AND in 1946 or 1947 he wrote a letter to a Grand Wizard stating, "The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation."

Wow.

Now lets look at Governor Barnett...

During his time as governor, Barnett, a staunch segregationist, became noted for his tumultuous clashes with the U.S. Civil Rights Movement.

In 1962, he actively opposed James Meredith's efforts to desegregate his alma mater, the University of Mississippi. As a result, Barnett was fined $10,000 and sentenced to jail for contempt but never paid the fine or served a day in jail.

Shortly after he left office, Barnett's looming presence was clearly evident at the first trial of white supremacist Byron De La Beckwith in February 1964. De La Beckwith was on trial for the murder of African American civil rights activist Medgar Evers, but an all-white jury was unable to agree on a verdict in both this and a subsequent re-trial. In the second subsequent re-trial, former Governor Ross Barnett interrupted the proceedings—while Myrlie Evers was testifying—to shake hands with Beckwith.

And they say Republican's are the racists rofl

The other thing I find funny is that they cry foul and have fits when they are reffered to as Socilists. My question there is how come they caucus with an ADMITTED Socialist? (Bernie Sanders)

It's even funnier having the Dems try to paint ANYONE else as a RAY!ciss' when THEY're the party [sic] with the ONLY serving Klansman (Robert Byrd, D-WV) in the Senate ... How far you think a 'pub would have gotten with that history ... ? Hypocrisy is their middle name ... It was also the 'craps who instituted the 'Jim Crow' laws and fought integration and 'civil rights' ... so much for having the truth on their side ...

Did you just get the newspaper from 45 years ago to find this stuff? asleep

By today's standard almost everybody was a "racist" 45-60 years ago.

I have friends from all sides of the political spectrum, and there is no doubt republicans tend to be more racially insensitive than everybody else. That's just the way it is!

So this is funny to you?

Considering that both parties are nothing of what they were back then it is nothing new and shocking.

And how many times are you gonna post the same thing?

It always seems some folks who are supposedly not racist are awfully defensive about it.

The Republican party is the new haven for the white racists in this country. Here are some of the reasons why:

White Racists love the idea of denying welfare to those unwhites they feel are sucking the country dry, when in truth the majority of the welfare rolls are white.

White Racists love religion because white racists believe that the bible furthers their agenda.

White Racists love using the fight against the "loss of traditional America" to further their agenda and it does further their agenda because this nation was founded by racists. Of course the white men of that day did not know any better so they are excused as far as a person can be excused for it.

White Racists are militant by nature and the Republican party stands for all militant rights.

Etc...

So even though it is a haven for the racists, there are Republicans who are liberal and moderate and not racist at all.

I know the same old repeating of the old parties issues isn't make any valid points to be debated.

They're all playing the same game WWF plays.

Its okay dear, everyone knows there really is no difference between a Republican and a Democrat, no biggie, but glad you found humor in it. Okay, one difference the badge they wear to confuse the public into believing they are chosing the less of two evils...........but its all the same devil

"Last week, Byrd said: "I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times . . . and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. I can't erase what happened."

And why do you use information so outdated it isn't even relevent anymore in today's society, as it was previously......People said many things in the 1940's ( go Roaring 40's with a mystique all their own. Let us build a time machine and ask 1940 America what they thought about the Germans, the great depression, industrialisation, and the women's coalition? I bet you would have gotten slanderous statements on all accounts..........Can we hold people to statements made in a different time and understanding?? Do you know anyone that hasn't made a bad comment once in their lives?? We are talking 70 years ago, and most are not alive to tell about it anymore.

I am a democrat. I rather think the name calling is childish actually. I dont care what political label I am given. Most americans arent as politically savvy as they think they are and probably dont even understand labels like socialist, communist, liberal, or conservative,,,,or what(if anything) is wrong with being ANY of those things.

As to racists,, I think thats a personal observation, just like the personal observation about DEMOCRTATS calling republicans racist. Overgeneralizing at its best,,,,

Racism is yet another of our vocabulary words which is poorly understood and vastly inappropriately assigned.

Racism is not particular to this country it is a world-wide phenomena and its strongest roots are tied to early European colonialism in which ethnicity was its target. Because colonialism was created to expand an empire’s resources the countries involved included people whose physical characteristics and culturally aligned behaviors and beliefs were significantly different than those of the Europeans. In the United States racism became defined most specifically by one feature, color. Racism was a term which became undeniably attached to the struggles of the black African American, which is why the term in this country is most often thought to be exclusive to people of color.

As America began to experience periodic influx of various ethnicities the term racism found a broader calling. (Jews, Irish, Polish, Asian, etc.) But even that is not the tip of the iceberg because racism expanded beyond our treatment of people within our borders which led to the Cold War and the near nuclear destruction of several countries.

The Cold War was a fabrication that never had to occur, but for racism, and this country suffered consequences for that action. With the Red Scare which created racism against anyone who by word of mouth alone could be labeled a communist. It did not stop there; with the country primed with fear and ready to take action simply with the pointing of a finger, homosexuals became as great a threat as the communists, so much so that it became difficult to determine if one was being persecuted as a communist or homosexual. We still suffer the effects of those times.

So today racism is a term which is comprised of INDIVIDUAL bigotries and it is through GROUP agreement only as to whom will be the target of the discrimination to be disseminated.

So when you speak of racism you are referring ONLY to a group for whom a specific bigotry is held in common.

To assign those specific INDIVIDUAL bigotries to any single large group of people such as Republican or Democrats, or Blacks or Texans, is to make a grievous error, because educated people understand that the group or person pointing the finger is either uneducated or attempting to use misdirection, misleading and erroneous information to prey on the fears of other unknowing individuals.

So let this be an education to all who read it and let all who read it understand THE AGENDA or perhaps the MENTALITY of individuals or groups who use the term racism in antagonistic ways.

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

and to assign that bigotry to any political group specifically is illogical and dishonest

So your argument is that it's impossible for a political 'party' [sic] to adopt an ethnocentric policy position about race ... ? The facts don't support that. The 'craps used it pretty well to their 'advantage' against the 'civil rights' movement in the '50s and '60s. Which 'party' do you think Orval Faubus, George Wallace, Lester Maddox, et al (including that cute li'l Robert Byrd) happened to belong to ... ? They sure weren't Republicans. It was the 'craps who fought all of the things that were brought about by the 'progressives' back then (yes, 'civil rights' was a 'progressive' concept), and it was the 'craps who fought to keep the 'slave mentality' alive - which comes 'round to the point that it IS indeed possible for a political party to adopt and use the concepts and tenets of 'racism' to its own ends. You haven't forgotten the racism Hitler employed against the Jews and other 'üntermenschen', have you ... ? Sorry, but 'dissociation' from reality ain't gonna be a-workin' here ...

What was the real point of this thread? I'm sure we could find many republicans during that same time who felt the same. Don't you think so?

You often go on about all Democrats are this and that. Why assume everyone in the same large group, be it Democrats, Republicans or any other group are the same?

You spend an awful lot of time trying to point out everything wrong with democrats/liberals. Are you ever positive about anything?

White Racists love the idea of denying welfare to those unwhites they feel are sucking the country dry, when in truth the majority of the welfare rolls are white.

Ya know, if this statement weren't actually KINDA close to true, it would be funny.

The thing is, while there are those in the Republican Party who think that way.

The vast majority, however, don't believe in giving welfare to those who do nothing to earn it no matter WHAT color their skin is.

As much as you might want to think otherwise, the Democrats are just as racist as any other party.

The Democrats, however, hide their racism behind a veil of " helping out " the poor when all their policies actually do is keep the poor people poor.

To see proof of that, one only needs to look as far as Detroit. Decades of Liberal " leadership ", corruption, and programs has put Detroit in the position it currently occupies.

One other thing...you say that the vast majority of people on the welfare rolls are white....

Care to provide the statistics proving that position?

I don't doubt it but I would like to see the numbers. I don't have time to search for them at the moment because I have to go to work.

I actually resent this statement........I take no pleasure in denying anyone something their family may need as a humanitarian. As a citizen, I do resent some parts of it because of the cost it is causing the country. I believe there are better ways. I believe a welfare check is not the answer. Lower rents or more housing, FSP, child care and Healthcare over Welfare.........Use welfare funds to finance the rest of the actual need os the people. Cash is not a need, cash economy is a false economy instituted by those to pump there egos and have a better than thou attitude. Would it behoove the country to work together and prosper with out financial gain. The people would be suited then and not the government or the haves vs. the have nots. The thinking here has illogocally mislead the nation.
