"The destiny I've chose,
All becoming clear, The currents have their say, The time is drawing near, Washes me away, makes me disappear, And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow, I will take my place, In the great below!" They've said that once you hit rock bottom you can only go up, do you find this rings true? Once you hit the bottom you can't fall anymore, correct? This leaves me wondering, so many people hit the bottom, and they seem to dig themselves deeper and deeper, which contradicts the saying above...obviously once you hit bottom, you can indeed still go further down. |

I think people have absolutely no comprehension of what "the bottom" actually is. They think they're there when they're not even really close. But in a culture where the ideal state is to live in a sort of self-imposed "victim" mentality, a lot of people feel the need to exaggerate the bottomness of their existences.

I love the hell out of that song...
The only thing I have to say is I have hit bottom before.... And in my heart I know I will never leave myself vulnerable to that again.... Some people can't help themselves, but when I saw all the people I hurt, and how my actions affected them, I couldn't help but feel complete shame.... Everybody needs help, though. Especially if you're in a bad place. Don't ever give up on a friend or a loved one. |

Bottoming out is staying dead... otherwise there's always room to fall even deeper.

I think people have absolutely no comprehension of what "the bottom" actually is. They think they're there when they're not even really close. But in a culture where the ideal state is to live in a sort of self-imposed "victim" mentality, a lot of people feel the need to exaggerate the bottomness of their existences. I think this is the most practical answer, as-is the line 'once you hit the bottom the only way is up' is in sorts an illogical statement. Just because you hit bottom does not in turn mean you will only go up from there, and I do believe that when you hit bottom you are perfectly capable of digging that hole even deeper. You lose your friends, family, and everything in-between, you can if you want still screw it up an awful lot more. Therein lies the problem, I don't believe people hit the 'bottom' but rather hit an area of their life where they are no longer comfortable, and claim this to be 'rock bottom.' My vision of 'rock bottom' is no return, you don't come back once you have hit the rock bottom, or at least it is a very difficult voyage. |

I think that just like the term "threshold of pain", everyone has a threshold of the lowest point in their life that they can withstand. So that threshold is bottomed out. Look at the people who take their lives (and possibly others) because they simply have someone leave them and they think they can't live without them. Some of those people have great jobs and other family and could simply move on given enough time. Someone or something could fill that void that they think is endless. Soooo sad. It would be nice if when someone thinks that they have reached their threshold (or bottomed out) that they could actually just learn to take one day at a time and push on, climb up, get a few breaks, meet another or so on.....

Humm they may hit the bottom but there is no guarantee on the way back up they will not be knocked back many times on the way. As well as not all will make it to the top for many will find their happy medium and prefer to stay there instead..........
