I pretty much just cuss at them in my rearview mirror until they go around or get off my a**! lol...I figure since I have a bad habit of doing it myself, I have no room to complain too much. It actually just tells me that I need to get my a** in gear and get out of the way! lol...

The only time I am bad about doing it to someone is when they are in the fast lane and not keeping up with the flow of traffic. That irritates the crap outta me and gets the road rage going a little!

Slower traffic to the right please! bigsmile

Why do you tailgate instead of just going around?

Because normally the slower traffic IS in the right lane and there is no way to go around. If you are not going to keep up with the flow of traffic in the fast lane then you need to get over into the right lane...not back up the fast lane!

That brings up a new question to your answer:

"What if you have 'Right Lane Phobia'?"

Just asking...what

Right Lane Phobia? lol...that's a new one on me?

Thought you'd find it funny.

Hey...if your in the right lane, and you have this feeling of a pulling force from the right, like your on the edge of a cliff, and your afraid of running off the road, unless your in the left.

Makes sense to me. flowers

Actually I do have "Right Lane Phobia"...I don't wanna be over there in the right lane with all the slow drivers!!! bigsmile

laugh I know where your coming from on that.

I mean, most of the time...I don't have all day to get somewhere.

Just drive safe and careful. shades

Interesting. Even with all the traffic in the DC area (one of the worst areas for traffic in the country) there's usually a way to pass at some point. I'm never forced to tailgate. Perhaps it's different in other places.

Left lane here IS for passing. So absolutely no excuse for tailgaters. Period.

My policy is .. if you are cramping my style ie I need to brake, then to the left I go =) ha ha

Exactly! My point is though that people around here can't tell the difference between the fast (passing) lane and the slow lane. They drive the speed limit (or under) in the passing lane so you can't go anywhere! Therein lies my frustration and my sole reason for tailgaiting someone! grumble frustrated

Maybe some others here will admit to tailgating and explain why!

I guess our point is that there is usually a way to pass, so there should be no reason for tailgating. All it does is piss off the person in front of you, which in turn will make you angrier. No wonder there are so many angry drivers out there.

i've had tailgaters so close that i can't even see their dashboard.

i make sure i am going the speed limit (which i usually am anyway), no faster, no slower and i proceed at that speed until they get fed up and pass (sometimes in the oncoming traffic lane). i have even called 911 from the car and reported the plates.

i don't drive in the passing lane unless i actually am passing and/or making a left exit.

I wonder if calling 911 actually did anything. Somehow, I don't think much would deter most tailgaters.

I don't care where you live. If you are blocking the left lane with LOTS of empty road in front of you and someone on your azz, you are going too slow. Move over please.

If you do not, you can expect to make people very upset.
I will admit to sometimes doing things like flashing my lights and weaving around people. I do try not to tailgate but only because I don't want to actually rear end someone accidentally.

This is of course assuming that traffic is flowing, not slow.

My friend, Robin was made to take off two of her signs on the back of her truck when she came to Arkansas from New York. One of them said, "Get off my back, *****" and the other one said, "Isn't life a *****?" The cop who pulled her over said it wasn't good for children to read. She never had a problem with the signs in New York. But she told me even though she had to take off the signs she hasn't been tailgated by cops in a while. She said the reason she had the signs on the back of the truck was because she got the truck from her son and he would get pulled over by the cops frequently.

I usually laugh at them, in a hysterical manner so they can see me, then turn around with a huge grin and my eyes wide open. Usually they back off, but if they don't I just continue laughing.

This whole thing came up because of someone tailgating horribly the other day. However, it was on a two lane road, as in one lane going each way. I can understand getting annoyed if someone is in the left lane, however I've never done anything obnoxious such as flashing my lights. I just pass when I get a chance. Then again, I try to stay out of the left lane unless I'm passing anyway.

Tailgaters Pizz me off.

Lane swervers Pizz me off.

I can get through traffic incredibly fast just by anticipating the flow, looking ahead, and not being an idiot.

I was surprised it worked so well, out in Illinois the drivers tailgated like no other so I just busted up laughing and looked back at them.laugh

I would never tailgate horribly on a two lane road. And flashing lights at someone is done here frequently and is less obnoxious then honking.

Just now on my way home I had to go around a massive tour bus in the far left lane of a 5 lane freeway. Why he felt it was ok to be in that lane is beyond me.
