I think I have cheated on my house. I had this spare bedroom just for junk that I didn't know what to do with. After I took in a boarder all my junk went into the rest of the house to make room for her. So now she has her room and I have mine. I am going to try to make up to the house by making a new junk room. I am trying to make blueprints. So far to make up to the house I have put new fawcetts in. I just hope my house can forgive me. This house has really been like a home to me.

If you don't want to be in a monogamous relationship no one is forcing it. If you are in one, than you and your partner made it that way, not society or laws.

The term "cheating" implies that the faithful partner did not consent to the action, that it broke a trust in the relationship. If your relationship is an "open" one than it is not cheating and you can do whatever your relationship has agreed on.

To me it comes down to the individual ability to accept responsibility. If you commit to something, do it. If you don't intend to, or don't think yourself capable of doing something... don't commit to it.

Humans have their natural instincts modified (curbed) by civilization and by culture; civilization tries to promote and love the instincts of empathy and of good harmonious interaction in certain ways among people and within nature while a culture will try to select, to prune off, to make you more "quadrangular" and or to perhaps package you in body and in soul.

That's getting way off the topic of cheating and into a discussion about civilization at large. We do suppress some of our baser instincts to have a (somewhat)civilized culture. There is no way around that though. To a degree we do have to give up individual freedoms for the betterment of the whole. Why can't I drive on the sidewalk?

The old saying of "my right's end where your face begins" applies here. Yes, we can do pretty much what we please. There does need to be a distinction made when our actions affect other unwilling participants though. That is where cheating ties into all this. The faithful partner was an unwilling participant because the cheater did not live up to their commitment.

Sex is not a survival instinct either, at its basest form it is reproductive. Most cheaters are not looking to reproduce at that moment so the "natural instinct" argument doesn't really work here. It is irresponsible, undependable people having their fun at the expense of someone else. No, that is never okay.

It is never ok to cheat. The damage done is not limited to the current relationship that gets destroyed but (provided you have a conscience) it will be with the cheater forever.

I was taught not to ever do anything that I would not be proud to tell my mother about. Somehow I doubt she would look fondly on cheating.
