Anyone ever do this? I just starting writing one and he really likes that someone is reaching out to him. I think its a great idea to reach out to them. Most of them are really lonely an looking for someone to talk with an share life's ups and downs.

Nope nadda not my thing all I can say to those that do be very careful. You have to remember they are behind bars for a reason and tend to get attached to those on the outside. One never knows what is going through their minds... Many times the outcome is not a good one.

Myself I would rather reach out to one in the Military there are plenty of them that are lonely as well for a total different reason with no one to talk to as well.

Not saying ones should not write those in prison just saying be very careful within the information you give them and tell them about yourself...whoa

No, but I should. I've been in jail 3 months myself for a non-violent crime & many are also there for the same reasons. Many are drug & alcohol related & need help not imprisonment. I was given a second chance & put in a drug rehab program & have gotten my life back together again. I took the fall for the guy I was "so-in-love" with!! I was even told if I'd tell the truth most likely the charges would have been dropped because it was obvious I'd gotten the hell beat out of me by my BF. I was warned not to take the fall for him but I did anyway. I lied & wouldn't admit I'd been forced into the crime I commited. I was dumb enough to believe his "I'm sorrys". All you have to look forward to is trays (meals) & mail. It's really a lonely place to be & I know I don't want to see the inside walls again. I've never been a violent person & to this day I have no intentions on bringing another harm. I do agree once in you get a certain jailhouse mentality. Only a person who has walked in those shoes could possibly understand.

I wrote to a couple, but I knew them before they went in, and they weren't violent guys, just got messed up with drugs. Because I'd walked that road at one point in my life, I tried to impart some words of wisdom on how to live drug free. Both are sober and doing well now, so sometimes it can help. But I'd be leary about starting contact with just some random inmate. JMO

SkydancingA, I do appreciate the hugs but I'm merely trying to educate others that there are many reasons why a person can end up in that kind of prediciment & that not everyone there are bad people. I've never tried to hide the fact that I've done time & still have 8 months to go on probation. This is why I can't leave the state to meet someone else in another state & am confined to WV. I was facing upto 25 years behind bars. I was charged with B&E, grand larcency, Conpiracy. I never entered the property or premises but because I'd worked there I handed over the information on entrance, combinations, security, etc to my ex & drove the car. I dropped him off & picked him back up. I plead guilty to conspiracy & got drug rehab & 2 years probation. I realize now that no man is worth doing time over!!!! I'm a long ways from perfect & also a long way from dangerous. I did what I did & if I had it to do over it'd never happened. But, it's done already.

True there are many reasons that some end up in prison but to write someone random is not a safe measure for a woman to do as well.

There are many factors that one must consider before jumping into the unknown.

I have known 3 people in my life time that have went to prison 2 for murder one for drugs trafficking. I even tried to write the first one that went in only wrote him one letter. His mind was screwed up never wrote him again it was just too weird the stuff he wrote back.

True those in for non violent crimes would be safer to write too but I would still caution one that jumps in and writes them. Still my advice would be not to give them too much information.

As long as they dont reach out to you on a dark dark night,
when the frosty mist hovers above your body,
and the moon casts light on your every searching breath...

Panicking your eyes dart towards the door,
But nobody is there...

You hear a rustle in the leaves outside
and the darkness matches your every stare...

I did my research on him before I wrote a letter. The site gave you pretty much everything bout them. Name, age, birthday ect. I googled him name and did research. I don't want some random guy to break into my house. No worries.

I enjoy writing to him, its intersecting to meet new people

never never never never would I reach out to someone in prison!! I think they have it wayyyyy to easy!!! Hell, they have better accomodations than most living in freedom. I dated a man that was released from prison once, only to watch him self destruct and end up back there...I also had a friend brutally attacked with a crowbar after her ex was released....so my opinion is...let them sit in there and try to think about what they've done with their lives, if that's not what they're doing, than they're in there for the wrong reason and there's no hope for them anyway! Nuff said!
